Pre-sale: Portugal.The Man @ Neighborhood Theatre

Posted By on Tue, Jul 19, 2011 at 1:45 PM

This morning, Portugal. The Man released its first full-length album, In the Mountain in the Cloud. With live performances left and right (including a Bonnaroo performance on the back of a Mr. T Mardi Gras float), the indie rock group might be one of the busiest bands this summer. After playing in Chicago for Lollapalooza and a sold-out solo set, the band is touring the United States and will end in New Orleans in time for this year's Voodoo Experience.

Tomorrow, their October 27 show at Charlotte's Neighborhood Theatre goes up for pre-sale on their website. Buying ahead gets an early admission and a piece of art from frontman John Gourley. Friday opens up the sale to general admission.

Check out a streamed performance from the band tonight at 7:30 through Ustream.

Free show at Tommy's Pub tonight

Posted By on Fri, Jul 15, 2011 at 11:03 AM

Tonight, July 15, at Tommy's Pub located at 2007 Central Avenue for free (yes I said free) experience the sweet sounds of:

Clavius, the reunited band including some of Charlotte's best talent and a straggler that left a few years ago to become a lawyer. Featuring Buck Boswell (Andy the Doorbum, Appaluica, Hectagons) on bass, Ricky Culp (Andy the Doorbum, Hectagons, Zeus) on drums and the long lost Jeff Wilkerson on guitar. These individuals are a fierce combination and the instrumental, progressive southern metal they project is for a limited time only so come and get it!

Hungry Girl, the newly formed musical treat that includes Jason Skipper (Columns, One Another) on guitar and vocals and Jimmy Lail on drums. This is only their second show but after the impression they left post-debut, I can only imagine how great their original reminiscent hybrid of '90s and '70s rock 'n' roll will sound rocking out the pub.

Les Wright, the folksy, life-reflecting treat that will make sure you have a moment of clarity and possibly a paradigm shift as he dominates the stage, solo and strong.

KP Soloman 5000 and his continuation of life reflection and changes in thought as he strums his acoustic guitar and sings about being a man and the various obstacles life brings. Tonight, Soloman will be accompanied by Geoff White of Appalucia on violin, complementing KP's acoustic guitar with beauty that cannot be refuted. KP Soloman, while solo at heart, sounds fantastic with the addition. Plus, who can ever go wrong adding a fiddle? Especially one with the talented Geoff White behind it.

Tommy's Pub is a great environment with friendly staff, great prices and good people. Buy a drink, tip your bartender and have a good ol' time!

Motley Crue tonight (7/12/11)

Posted By on Tue, Jul 12, 2011 at 9:19 AM

The '80s bad boys are still out on the road singing classic tunes. While Vince Neil's voice has gotten a bit whiny, Tommy Lee is still a madman behind the drum kit. This time around, his drum set does a 360-degree loop during his solo — and one lucky crowd member gets to go along for the ride. Ah, nostalgia. $40-$122.15. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. www.livenation.com.
