Previous tours and concerts by Hill haven't been without controversy. During a 10-day tour of Europe, Hill only performed one show, passed out during the second and refused to give refunds. She has canceled a handful of shows for "health concerns" as well.

Earlier this year, she performed on the Rock the Bells tour (though sometimes she was as much as two hours late for her scheduled time). She recently was announced as a headliner for a Miami music festival in the spring of 2011.

Her only official studio solo album is 1998's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Tatsuya Nakatani this Sunday, Dec. 19

Posted By on Sat, Dec 18, 2010 at 10:19 AM

And now for something completely different. If you've been looking for something a bit eclectic, odd and on the fringe as much as it can be, you should probably check out the show by Tatsuya Nakatani on Sunday night.

The show will take place at Dialect Design. Admission is $5. Great Architect is playing, too.

Grown Up Avenger Stuff CD release party tonight

Posted By on Fri, Dec 17, 2010 at 12:10 PM

Grown Up Avenger Stuff is relatively new on the Charlotte music scene, but that's not to say they haven't made an impact already. The band has infused a fresh breath into the rock landscape in town and tonight's CD release party at Amos' is about as big as the band's talents and love of the scene it's a part of.

I don't know that I see as much support from other bands — as in, these guys (and gal) are everywhere. They're checking out local shows, covering other local artists and doing whatever they can to make the scene a better one.

Tonight's the night for fans and the scene to give a little back. Along with GUAS, there will be performances by Zoe Vette and the Revolvers and The Spiveys. That's not enough? Chow Tiger and Weezer cover band Dope Nose will be there too.

Still not enough? They're giving away two iPod touches.

Still not enough? (Getting greedy, aren't you?) What about cupcakes? Or getting a free tattoo?

My recommendation to fans and the band would b— relax, have fun and enjoy the hell out of it!

Ticket's for tonight's all ages show are $10. See you there!

E-S Guthrie at the Muse Saturday

Posted By on Fri, Dec 3, 2010 at 11:39 AM

I haven't gotten a chance to catch E-S Guthrie on stage recently — not since the hair was cut and the beard was trimmed, actually. However, if this video is any indicator, he's definitely got a good thing going on and found an identity with his music.

Guthrie, a former member of The New Familiars, has done the solo thing for quite some time now. He tried out his work as a trio, but it now looks like he's found a niche of his own. The approach with two microphones is one I haven't seen much of and gives his vocals an intriguing depth for choruses.

He's performing on Saturday night at the Evening Muse along with Bess Rogers and Lelia Broussard. Should be a helluva show.
