Did you watch "American Idol" last night? I sat there and watched as guy after guy stood up, sang a boring song and walked away.
Normally, I'd go singer by singer and make comments on what I thought, but, off the top of your head, can you really remember one of the performances without thinking of a name or face?
I can remember that horrible version of Elvis Presley, a weak version of The Doors and a guy being called "Jacuzzi."
In the past, you'd watch and think, "They could easily win." This year, not so much.
Karaoke Idol, I mean, American Idol, named the finalists to the top 24 last night.
All seemed well and good - except for the surprise of not picking Josiah "the kid who sleeps in his car" Leming - and then you find something like this over at votefortheworst.com.
So, it looks like most of the contestants already have had some taste of fame, or a record contract.
I'm pretty sure this show has already jumped the shark...
So, what'd you think of the Grammys? Glad I'm not the only one who's tired of Kanye West's attitude. I thought Vince Gill and Usher were hilarious when they gave him a hard time.
So, here are my thoughts on last night's show:
- Alicia Keys kicked if off with a duet with a taped Frank Sinatra performance. I thought it was well done and a good start for the 50th Anniversary edition.
Sarah Silverman went on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to break some news to her boyfriend, Jimmy. She's a comedian, but the song (and dance) is hilarious!

America's biggest karaoke puppet show kicked off last night - did anyone watch this?
It's really getting kind of silly, if it wasn't already at that level before. Who keeps telling all of these delusional teens that they can sing? I understand the need to be supportive, but it gets ridiculous.
Some of those trying out are clearly in it just for the fame, as well. You can't tell me otherwise about the guy in the Princess Leia costume last night.
Meanwhile, there are some people who can sing and it'll be interesting to see how the contest goes this year, since they are allowing people to use an instrument while performing.
Personally, it all seems pointless until they look for people who perform original material.
Here's the video for Tori Amos' "Big Wheel." The video is by a contest winner and showcases Amos in some of her many forms.

If you haven't already seen it, here's the video for MuteMath's "Typical": \
The band recreated it again for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

More on the band, who will be playing at Amos' on Friday, in this week's Creative Loafing!
Amy Winehouse performed at the MOBO awards earlier this week and...well....it wasn't pretty. \
Jack Black was the guest for David Letterman's Top 10 list recently - "Top Ten Things you Don't Want to Hear at a Music Store."
