After my friend asked me about my week, he had to pause and ask ...."Who does your schedule?"
I do and I think I might have to fire myself.
New Club Will Bring Pure Dance Back to Charlotte Nightlife, says the press release I just received regarding the opening of The Garden and Gun Club at the NC Music Factory, which will neighbor the hub of this blog: the Creative Loafing offices.
I dont know about you, but Im excited for this new edition to Charlotte nightlife, based on the information below and the convenient location. But the question is, how convenient will it be for those who arent basically already there?
Last night, I went out for the purpose of going to a benefit at the Wachovia Atrium for the Mental Health Association, and somehow ended up judging Whisky Rivers Boots & Bikini contest I swear I am not a mental health patient.
Although my friends may beg to differ.
They said I shouldve taken the short bus to the Atrium... so, I stood up for my shortness 52 baby! They just shook their head and said I reiterated their point.
The MHAs Lifting Spirits party wasnt insane... But it was some fundraising fun.
College Football kicks-off in 65 days and there are 72 days until the NFL season kicks-off . But whos counting?
In the interim Ive been getting my football fix via the Carolina Speed the Professional Indoor football team that plays in Cabarrus Arena up in Concord.
Arena Football is in a league of their own. Granted, it has most of the components of your typical football game: beer, field entertainment, refs, cheerleaders, and avid fans, but its a whole different ballgame.
BlackFinn Restaurant and Saloon is coming soon to an EpiCentre near you on July 24.
But theres already a BlackFinn in Norfolks Waterside Norfolks slightly outdated version of the EpiCentre. Ahh, Norfolk where every week is Fleet Week.
I was there this past weekend for a bachelorette party, which gave me the perfect opportunity to review Charlottes newest bar-a-rant.
Howl at the Moon at the EpiCentre opens this Friday, but last night they had a pre-grand opening party that doubled as their dress rehearsal. Because the whole operation is just one big show, but were not talking concerts or plays Its a Dueling Piano Bar starring piano men that would make Billy Joel proud, dancing waitresses, and a full band saxophone and all.
Its a unique form of live nightlife entertainment thats as interactive as it is intoxicating. No pun intended. None taken.
We have a winner! Thanks for playing and stay tuned for more free shit!
The first person to e-mail me won two free all inclusive passes to this...

Looks like somebodys having a case of the Mondays...
But not me! Turns out, Monday is as just of a fun day as Sunday...at least judging by the crowd that almost filled Dixies Tavern to maximum capacity last night. I saw everyone Id see on a typical Saturday night out, and by everyone I mean people I havent seen in a while and people I actually want to see. And, on Mondays, those usually behind the bar were on the other side of it.
Sunday Funday at Summer Pops as in in Charlotte Symphony's Sunday summer concerts series in Symphony Park...at South Park. That's a lot of parks.
Speaking of which, good luck trying to find a place to park your car or your booty if you dont get there early. The best way to describe the crowd is well, crowded. It gets so crowded in fact that people go to the park around 8 a.m. to lay out blankets to reserve their spot for the 6:30 p.m. show. By noon, you cant even see the grass.
On Thursday after 5 p.m., all hell breaks lose in Uptown Charlotte the two after fives go head to head like the Ultimate Fighting Godz of War coming to the Time Warner Cable Arena.
In this corner .EpiCentre at 5
The Pavilion at the EpiCentre made its debut just three weeks ago with The Pat McGee Band. And last night Joystick played to a literally hot crowd on the rooftop of Charlottes new (so new its still under construction) entertainment complex under the skyline. Youre so high up on the roof that it kind of makes you want to climb up on a crane and bungee jump down.
And in this corner Alive After Five
This is the original After Five that is responsible for making Thursday the new Friday at the Wachovia Atrium. Their band roster includes a Michael Jackson Tribute band, a Journey Tribute band, Almost McGraw, and last night a Led Zepplin tribute band. This may just be me, but I feel that cover bands are better when theyre comprised of Little People. Cason Point: Mini Kiss and Mini Britney.
For the third week in a row the new kid on the block has managed to claim victory over the traditional, judging by attendance and the fun meter, proving Charlotte isnt just fickle about the Panthers. The EpiCentre is able to trump Wachovia because a) its new and b) theres Suite right across the balcony and Whisky River downstairs. Whereas all there is at Wachovia is Mimosa (a restaurant) and an office buildings.
What do you think? Out with the old and in with the new?
