Charlotte hip-hop duo Mr. Invisible has released a video for "The Heist." The song's drum-heavy backdrop lays behind the high-speed rhymes of MCs Justin Aswell and Ill-use. The video was filmed in Charlotte, mostly in and around Lunchbox Records. The video's plot revolves around the duo stealing a bunch of vinyl records - makes me wonder what passersby were thinking...
In case you weren't at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn., last weekend, or missed the Avett Brothers performance, you can catch a handful of videos online via Youtube.
The Charlotte Video Project, which is working to make 100 short films about the city and its people before the Democratic National Convention in September, released a five-minute video about Charlotte hip-hop duo Brody & Choch.
The video highlights the group's old-school look and sound as it shows them on stage, in the studio and at the barber shop.
Brody & Choch will host and perform at the Fillmore House Party on June 16 featuring Lucky Five, Sean Divine and Chasing Pedestrians.
Charlotte's Junior Astronomers have released a video for "Settle Down," from the band's 2010 EP, I Just Want to Make a Statement. The video, the band's first, uses a variety of live and off-stage footage - fitting for the gritty, kinetic feel of the song.
The first weekend of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival happened over the weekend in California, and while early buzz surrounded the performance of Radiohead, it was clearly Tupac's appearance with Dr. Dre that no one can stop talking about.
Tupac Shakur appeared on stage as a hologram to sing "Hail Mary" followed by "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted" with Snoop. Though some of the footsteps were a bit out of sync and made him look like he was moonwalking, for the most part it was simply impressive - and so lifelike it was a bit creepy.
The hologram was the work of AV Concepts and took roughly four months to create. The only question I have is, how did they get him to say, "What's up Coachella?!?"
I'm curious to see if they use the same thing next weekend for the second weekend of the festival.
It's not the first time holograms have been used - some examples include Alicia Keys singing with Frank Sinatra at the 2008 Grammy Awards and Celine Dion singing with Elvis on American Idol in 2007.
North Carolina native J. Cole released a video yesterday for one of the tracks from his latest album, Cole World: The Sideline Story. Check it out:
From LifeandTimes.com, where the video first premiered:
Directed by Axel Laramee and Adam Roy, the clip documents Cole's international 2011 tour, capturing the song's straightforward production and lyrics, representing the journey Cole has taken with the release of his first album and setting the stage for his follow up.
The video features shots from J. Cole's travels and tour stops all over the world, including Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen and London. What do you think?
J. Cole will be back in Charlotte in concert with Drake, Meek Mill, Waka Flocka Flame, 2 Chainz, French Montana on May 19 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Get your tickets here.

I, music editor Jeff Hahne, was a guest on CLT Blog's 282 internet television show this week to discuss Charlotte's growing music scene. Former CL editor Carlton Hargro hosts the show which includes discussions on just about every subject.
This week, along with music, the discussion included technology at CMS and the cold case unit of the CMPD. The music portion of the show begins at the 8:40 mark.
From the merging of two local artists in Drake Margolnick and Campbell the Band comes Flagship, Charlotte's latest indie rock quintet. The buzz-worthy band has finished its debut EP, which includes the song "Backseat." I've caught brief glimpses of the band live and online and what I've heard so far has intrigued me.
Here's the video:
