WTF Wednesday (8/27/2014): ISIS, the defunct metal band, is being confused with ISIS, the militant Islamic group

Take a look at the photo above. That is ISIS, the now defunct Boston-based band that helped pioneer post-metal, which paired heavy metal’s blunt attack with post-rock’s skyscraping panoramas.

There is, of course, another ISIS making headlines these days — the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a jihadist group and self-identified Muslim caliphate that’s has slaughtered Christians, Yazidis and other Muslims who aren't members of the Sunni Islamic sect and that’s claimed responsibility for the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

One would think the two would not be easily confused.

And yet.

WTF Wednesday (8/20/2014): Super Bowl eyes pay to play halftime show

Posted By on Wed, Aug 20, 2014 at 10:48 AM

The Super Bowl is narrowing its search for a halftime act for 2015's giant sports event and Rihanna, Katy Perry and Coldplay are on the top of the list.

Here's the catch: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that acts are being asked to pay to play. The report claims NFL employees have already approached and “asked at least some of the acts if they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig.”

It's no surprise that artists aren't exactly welcoming the idea. So we ask, WTF, NFL? Have you ever seen the numbers of the ad revenue for Super Bowls?

The average annual Super Bowl ad revenue is between $213 million to $292 million. And now the NFL wants to make more via the bands that play the halftime show?

If the NFL executives want to make people happy, they'd just hire Weird Al.

WTF Wednesday (8/13/2014): Electric Zoo warns against use of Molly

Posted By on Wed, Aug 13, 2014 at 12:51 PM

Electric Zoo has released an anti-drug PSA aimed at festivalgoers on the dangers of Molly. Thanks to a number of recent deaths at electronic music festivals, Electric Zoo is requiring ticket-buyers to watch a video before a purchase could be made.

The video above is a lot better than this classic from the '80s that makes you say "WTF?" when you watch it now.

WTF Wednesday (8/6/2014): Baby loves Katy Perry

Posted By on Wed, Aug 6, 2014 at 10:21 AM

How do you soothe a fussy baby? Apparently, just play Katy Perry's "Dark Horse." Personally, when I think of Perry's cookie-cutter musical popularity, I want to cry. Check out the latest viral video:

WTF Wednesday (7/30/2014): DMX goes for a ride

Posted By on Wed, Jul 30, 2014 at 10:13 AM

Even the rough and tough DMX gets scared sometimes. The rapper was videoed on the Sling Shot at Orlando's Magical Midway recently. The ride catapults the participants more than 390 feet in the air while strapped into a chair attached to bungee cords.

WTF Wednesday (7/23/2014): Flaming Lips + Miley Cyrus = ?

Posted By on Wed, Jul 23, 2014 at 10:24 AM

The Flaming Lips and Miley Cyrus recently teamed up for a NSFW video that can only be called weird ... or a really intense acid trip.

"Blonde SuperFreak Steals the Magic Brain" was originally intended to be a video for a song that referenced LSD — big surprise. In the video, Moby enlists a woman to steal John F. Kennedy's brain, which Cyrus has, because the brain holds the formula for LSD.

Um, yeah. Maybe you should just watch and make up your own story.

Cyrus will perform at Time Warner Cable Arena on Aug. 6, 2014.

WTF Wednesday (7/16/2014): Paris Hilton's new video

Posted By on Wed, Jul 16, 2014 at 11:39 AM

* Paris Hilton released a video for her song "Come Alive." The auto-tuned club song has plenty of thumping beats and simplistic lyrics. It's as bad as you'd expect it to be:

* Andre Johnson, who raps under the name Christ Bearer, has finally given an interview to explain why he cut his own penis off. "Yes, I was using drugs that night, but I was in complete control," Johnson told E!. "I cut it off because that was the root of all my problems. My solution to the problem was the realization that sex is for mortals, and I am a god...Those kinds of activities got me into trouble, and I came here to be a god."
