Sex addiction = brain damage? Explains a lot ...

Posted By on Mon, Jun 14, 2010 at 5:09 PM

When you see that famous man (Tiger Woods) with the beautiful wife and the ugly mistress(es), you've wondered what in the hell was he thinking?

I know because I had the same thoughts — from Eric Benet to Jesse James — about men married to pretty women but claim to have a raging sex addiction. Well, a new study says sex addictions may stem from brain damage.

Sex addiction is more than the latest celebrity disorder du jour, but a dysfunction in a critical brain region that controls decision-making, new research suggests.

Dr. Lique Coolen, Canada Research Chair in the Neurobiology of Motivation and Reward, and colleagues have found that rats with a damaged prefrontal cortex become compulsive sex seekers.

Coolen says the prefrontal cortex, located in the front part of the brain, normally acts as a break on self-destructive behaviour.

"We're always very cautious to draw parallels between studies in rodents with human behaviours," she says. But Coolen believes hyper-sexuality doesn't deserve the bad press it has recently attracted.

"My concern is with all these celebrities claiming they have sex addiction. I read the newspaper just like everyone else. A first gut reaction is to say, 'Oh, come on, this is just an excuse that people are using.'

There is plenty of debate in the psychological community about whether sex addiction is even real. But this study is making it hard to believe that sex addiction is just an excuse for cheating:

For their study, she and her colleagues taught male rats to associate mating with "a very negative consequence:" Every time the animals copulated, the male rodents were injected with a compound that made them sick to their stomachs.

"The animal really learns to associate, 'I'm going to mate and I know I'm going to get sick afterwards," Coolen says.

Normally, it takes about four association trials for the rodents to stop initiating sex. "They see the female and try to get as far away from her as they can," Coolen says.

But when the researchers made lesions in the prefrontal cortex, the rats continued to copulate, "even though they knew the mating was associated with illness."

It may not be damage, per se, that's needed to affect the brain's inborn break on compulsive behaviour. Rather, it could be caused by a irregularity or change in the expression of certain proteins, or changes in the connections between brain cells.

Besides, knowing that the problem is in your head and not your pants makes it easier to understand why some men and women seek the extra sex partners (who look like the butt of a cruel joke most times) that they end up with.

A thriving sex shop in the Middle East? WTF?!

Posted By on Mon, Jun 14, 2010 at 8:03 AM

250_sexshop2

When you think about Middle Eastern countries, I'm willing to bet that sex is the last thing you think about. You probably think burkas, women being stoned for showing a sliver of thigh and terrorists.

Well, imagine my shock and surprise when I saw this recent headline: Sex shop thrives in Middle East.

Khadija Ahmed’s sex shop has survived against all odds and some particularly intense scrutiny from customs officials since it opened in Bahrain in 2008.

Ahmed’s shop, a rare sight in the region, sells a wide range of lingerie, creams to delay male orgasm and sex toys out of the tiny Khadija Fashion House south of Manama, or through her website (www.khadijamall.com) to customers across the region.

You go Miss Ahmed. This woman is showing real courage for to further the cause of human sexuality and gender rights. Her shop is doing more for women in the Middle East than that stupid Sex And The City 2 movie.

A modestly dressed Ahmed in a traditional flowing black abaya and headscarf told Reuters that most of the items she sells are already available in Bahrain’s fashion shops and pharmacies anyway and that she shuns some products to avoid stirring public anger.

“I don’t sell vibrators for example, as this is against Islam,” she said, adding that her faith banned the replication or display of sensitive parts of the body. However, other toys such as vibration rings were fine, she said.

Maybe Ahmed's success comes from the fact that she respects her religion while doing something that will help women get off, even if it is in a modest manner.

Discussing and displaying sex in public is a taboo in most Middle Eastern countries, but Islamic scholars have also said that sex toys are legitimate if used by married couples.

Bahrain is considered one of the more liberal countries in the Gulf, allowing the sale of alcohol in bars and designated shops. Saudis, Qataris and Kuwaitis flock to the island kingdom each weekend to enjoy its nightlife.

Ahmed’s most recent challenge is an ongoing legal case over a complaint by a customs official. She often has trouble getting her shipments cleared through customs and once ran into a spot of trouble when an official refused to clear a shipment of massage tools and vibration rings.

“These are closed-minded people....or maybe they’re just jealous,” she said.

Ahmed, who says she is not aware of any similar shop in the region, says she has many customers from the United Arab Emirates and in deeply conservative Saudi Arabia.

Sex Q&A: Papa George talks romance and voodoo

Is your lover gone, and you want him or her back? Maybe you need some spiritual assistance. That's where Papa George comes in. He practices voodoo to do many things, including reuniting lovers. He recently spoke with Creative Loafing about what he does and how, he says, voodoo can make love last.

Creative Loafing: So how exactly do you reunite lovers?

Papa George: Let me start out first by telling you what I do here. What I do here is voodoo. Basically, I influence people; love problems, money problems, court cases. Now, with a love problem, the first thing I ask them is: What do they want? Do they want it permanently or do they want to play with it? That's the first thing I ask them. There are three types of relationships: you want to play, you don't know or you want it permanently ... You know, the divorce rate in 1903 was like 1 percent and today it's like 56 percent. More people get divorced today, as far as I'm concerned, than get married. If you decide to stay with somebody, what you do is a spiritual marriage spell.

How does this spell change a relationship?

Well, you tie their soul and guardian angel to you. Now, that won't make life perfect; that's impossible. That doesn't mean you should go cheat on your mate either. But if you play it right, you will no doubt get a relationship the way that it is meant to be. Two people joined together, like the Bible says, two become one to go through life together.

How long does this spell last?

That spell is meant for permanency. It's not meant to get someone laid or to test the waters. That's mean (to be used) when you know what you want.

Can that spell be broken?

It would be very difficult to break that. Anything can be broken, I suppose, but it would be very difficult.

You said it doesn't make life perfect, so how does voodoo help?

My life is 3,000 times better with voodoo, but it is not perfect. For instance, I'm on my third wife. I've had two die on me. But I'm 60 years old and my wife is 25. And she's very good looking. Does she still get a little hard to handle sometimes? Yes. Do I get hard to handle sometimes? Yes.

How long have you been practicing voodoo?

I was fully trained by the time I was 16. It's not something you toy with. This was the thing I learned.

Brooke Hundley: poor little ex-mistress

Posted By on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 10:38 AM

When former ESPN production assistant decided to have an affair with a married man, she gave up her right to be a victim.

But Brooke Hundley, 22, is now suing ESPN because of her tryst with former Baseball Tonight broadcaster Steve Phillips.

The lawsuit by 22-year-old Brooke Hundley, filed Tuesday in Stamford Superior Court, says ESPN defamed her by firing her based on false statements by Phillips and by claiming she had not fully cooperated with its investigation.

Hundley, who was hired by ESPN in 2008 and paid $10.96 per hour, said Phillips made false statements to police in Connecticut portraying her as a danger to his family and himself as an innocent victim. She said Phillips falsely claimed he had been trying to end their relationship.

Hundley says she fully cooperated with ESPN's investigation.

How can anyone feel sorry for this chick when, according to police reports and 911 calls from Phillips's wife, she was stalking his family? If you want to stalk the man you've been sleeping with, go for it. But leave his family out of it.

Hundley is just the latest mistress who thinks she's entitled to something because she dropped her panties for a married man. One of Tiger Woods's mistresses, Joslyn James, has been crying for an apology for months following the revelation of how many people Tiger was giving Wood too.

And then there are the women who slept with Jesse James.

Can we just stop for a minute. When you decided to have an affair with a married man, you have to make concessions and realize that you're not No. 1. You may not even be No. 2, but you for sure are not a victim. Even if you're a good person who just happened to get caught in a bad situation, everyone will always think of you as that slut who wrecked a home. Just ask Rielle Hunter.

That's bad — but what's even worse is the fact that the married woman who was getting her "cougar" on is also being charged with adultery. What's next, being branded with a scarlet letter?
