Date idea for your Friday night

Posted By on Fri, Aug 7, 2009 at 2:54 PM

It's Friday and you have no interest in seeing the new G.I. Joe movie. (Me either!)

But sitting in the house is not an option either because the weather is going to be so nice, no storms (don't quote me -- I am not Larry Sprinkle) are brewing on the horizon. You need something to do and you don't want to spend a lot of money on it.

I feel your pain. But a nice date doesn't have to be expensive. It can even be free -- so to speak. The venue is free but you have to spring for dinner.

Head to Freedom Park tonight with your love (date, booty call or whatever) and a picnic basket filled with treats that you both like. If your plan is to get some sweet lip while you're at the park, leave the onions and the pickles at home.

Pack some water or something sparkling and take a walk around the park while feeding each other. The park closes at dusk, so if you time things right, you'll be burning more calories in bed before midnight.

Write your own erotica for your lover

You don't need someone else to put together words to turn your lover on and you don't have to be an author to write something hot and steamy to get the drawers dropping and the sex popping.

Here are some tips that I learned from a book titled "How To Write A Dirty Story," by Susie Bright. The book is for writers, of course but it can help you spice up your prose that you plan to share with one person as well.

Bright says in the book, "Writing about sex for yourself, or to share with a lover or dear friend is the quintessential reason to write erotica at all."

So, write about the last time your lover gave you multiple orgasms and tell him or her in vivid detail how you felt, how hard or how wet you got days later and what you did to yourself.

Bright says that she has her students write about sexual experiences and:

The concentration it took to write it was like "reliving it all over again." They felt the heat, the anticipation, the ambivalence -- of it all.

For you, your writing [unless you decide to get it published or post it on your Facebook page] isn't going to be graded or read by the masses. But it should make you hot and bothered. I'm sure Bright doesn't want her students to come to class and do this, but when you're ready to read your little dirty masterpiece to your lover, strip down to nothing. Or put on something tight and black [leather is optional].

Need some background music for your story? Put on John Coltrane's A Love Supreme and put it on repeat or your favorite kind of music.

It's going to be a hot time in your house that night.

Take a trip to Argentina, in Concord

The Diversity Den, located at 160 Concord Commons Drive, wants you to dance the Argentine Tango.

Every Tuesday night, dancers and wanna be dancers come together and learn the tango from instructor Greg Gershowitz.

So, what is the Argentine Tango?

Well, it's not hiking the Appalachian Trail -- Mark Sanford.

It's more of a social dance than the regular tango.

According to Wikipedia:

Argentine tango is danced in an embrace that can vary from very open, in which leader and follower connect at arms length, to very closed, in which the connection is chest-to-chest, or anywhere in between. Close embrace is often associated with the more traditional styles, while open embrace leaves room for many of the embellishments and figures that are associated with tango nuevo.

And that makes this dance sexy and great way to feel up on your partner without getting slapped. At the Diversity Den, you don't need a dance partner, so if you're looking for a bit of a summer romance, here's your chance to meet someone new.

And if you and your mate are tired of the same old dates -- you know, dinner, movie and bedroom -- then here's something new and exciting to try.

Cheap Date: The Belmont Drive-In

Posted By on Tue, Jul 14, 2009 at 11:22 AM

autokino-300x225.webp

So you met Mr. or Miss Right (Now) and you're looking for some place in the Charlotte area to take them on your first date ... and you're trying to do it without breaking the bank.

Usually people say skip the movie since you can't talk and it's dark. I say go to the drive-in in Belmont. It's an old throwback to 1950s dating and the cost for admission is $4 a person. Though it's discouraged, you can pack a dinner that you two want to eat and watch a movie in the car. But the food at the drive-in snack bar is much cheaper than what you pay for at most cinema-plexes around the Queen City.

At the Belmont drive-in, you can buy fries for $1. Their menu is online along with the prices.

You can talk all you want and not worry about someone telling you to shut up.

Show time is at dusk.

They say a movie date is not a good first date

Posted By on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 10:33 AM

movie_theatre-300x213.webp

Over the years, dating experts and daters have said going to the movies on a first date isn't a good thing to do. And that's true if you go to a picture on opening weekend. It's going to be crowded and people around you will frown on you and your date talking (or doing something else) during the movie.

But you can make a movie date work for you. First, make sure the person you're dating isn't a movie buff. Dating someone who thinks silence is really golden at the cineplex will ruin the fun.

Next, pick a movie that everyone has already watched or a film that no one wants to see. You and your date will more than likely be alone in the dark. Popcorn is optional. If the movie theater is empty, take a seat at the top of the theater. Then you can talk, kiss, stroke or do whatever without worry that you'll get caught. Of course this only works in stadium seating.

You may not remember what movie you and your date saw, but will get a chance to act like a kid again and what can be better than that?

And if you want to save money, go to the movies during the day then hit up a park afterwards to continue the conversation or whatever.

Make Monday night date night

Posted By on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 1:27 PM

date-night-300x222.webp

Until football season starts, there is not much to do. Or is there?

Try a picnic in one of Charlotte's many parks. If you don't want to cook, try one of the daily specials at Boudreauxs.

If you don't want to sit outside and fight pollen, maybe you want head into a restaurant and make goo-goo eyes at your date over drinks. For $9.99, you can take a date to Macaroni Grill for a Mediterranean chicken grill. The location in University City offers a secluded feeling that will surely jumpstart the passion.

If you want to stay at home and cook dinner, check out the fresh fruits and veggies at the farmer's markets around town. Don't forget the seafood, oysters to kick up the sexual heat. There are a number of seafood markets in east Charlotte, along Central Avenue.

Monday can be a great date night, with or without football on TV.

Cheap Date alert: Don't save it for the weekend

Posted By on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 1:19 PM

abels-blog-300x266.webp

In today's recession soaked environment, you have to change some of the things you do.

That mean date night should come in the middle of the week and not just the weekend. You'll save money and there's nothing like some mid-week loving.

So, what's your motivation for going out in the middle of the week for dinner and booty?

Restaurant specials.

  1. Eddie's Place has a month of specials. Thursday seems as if it's the best day to go.
  2. Twist has martini specials on Wednesday.
  3. Mert's Heart and Soul in Uptown Charlotte gives you so much food that you'd have to share. Dinner starts at 3 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
  4. Blue has late night eats for two at a decent price, especially Wednesday and Thursday nights.
  5. And never forget, McDonald's dollar menu. (Just kidding, kind of.)

Just because the economy sucks, it doesn't mean you should suffer in your bedroom and dating activities.

This was obviously written by someone not from Charlotte

This was supposed to be a cheap date alert post. But as I was looking up some information about restaurant specials, Goggle took me to eharmony.com.

The article was called "Tips for dating in Charlotte," so I had to read it. As I read, it became clear that the writer has no idea how to date in Charlotte.

Don't believe me? Check out these nuggets of dating "wisdom:

3. It’s All about Uptown

When you want excitement and adventure for your date in Charlotte, you want to go to Uptown or the center city. Despite the confusion with the name (since some residents call Uptown Downtown), it’s where all the action is! From museums, bars, and dining establishments to nightclubs and hotels – this is the life of the city and the perfect place to take a date.

First of all, it isn't all about Uptown because if you don't find anywhere to park, your date is over really quickly. And in real life, who goes on a date at the museum?

Transportation

Charlotte has a great bus system, with over 40 stops and affordable fares – but the bus may not be the best way to impress your date. If you choose to go the taxi route, be prepared to pay a pricey fee. The average cost is around $2 a mile, not including the initial fee and any traffic or wait time, which some taxis charge for.

Just the fact that someone wrote Charlotte has a great bus system proves that they don't live here or have never taken a ride on CATS.

Dating in Charlotte can be fun, but with the recession in full swing and bankers becoming hated, dating in Charlotte has gotten that much harder.

Not good date movies

Posted By on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 8:03 AM

fatal_attraction1-202x300.webp

It's Friday (don't we all wish) and you want to spend the evening with that special someone. You decide to pop some popcorn and pull out a few DVDs. If you want to get laid or have a good date, you're going to leave these movies in their cases on on the shelf.

  1. Valkyrie. Sure it has Tom Cruise, but who wants a history lesson?
  2. Fatal Attraction. This should be banned from any date night.
  3. Waiting to Exhale. See above.
  4. Basic Instinct. Watch this with someone you want to tie up and it will never happen. (Don't ask me how I know.)
  5. Sleepless in Seattle. This movie is corny and if you're a woman it will cause erectile dysfunction in your date.
  6. Any Rocky or Terminator movie. Do I even have to explain this one?
  7. Beloved. The book was hard enough to follow.
  8. Current Porn. It may be obvious that you want to have sex, but do you really have to pull out the Jenna Jamison collection.

So, what are good movies to watch on a date?

While I said no current porn, you can impress your date with "The Devil In Miss Jones," because that movie is classic. Just make sure you comment on the artistic nature of the movie.

Comedies are also a good choice. Laughter can lead to a lot of things. And if you have to see a drama, make sure it's one with an ending that will lead to a lot of conversation. Try Spike Lee's 25th Hour.

Superhero movies are cool, only if it's Batman, either the Christian Bale ones or the Michael Keaton ones.
