Come loaf with the new Loaf

Posted By on Mon, Jul 19, 2010 at 12:27 PM

Break open your calendar … go to Wednesday, July 28 and insert (in pen): “Launch of new Creative Loafing. Party ensues.”

Creative Loafing is launching their redesign, making the paper more bad-ass than ever. There’s so much hype about it in the office, I have been voluntarily going to meetings not mandatory for me to attend just so I can get a sneak peek of it. I am one excited dork right now.

But in Creative Loafing-style we are throwing a party ...

softlaunch

Come be the first to see the new paper and get some free shit. You can meet our new mascot — Loafy, and sign up for Loafy’s List. He (or an intern forced to wear a mascot costume?) will send you nightlife happenings direct to your inbox. But first, RSVP "Hell yeah" to the Creative Loafing Soft Launch party at Snug Harbor here.

And by the way, our Best Of party will be at BUTTER on Aug. 3 … go ahead and put that on your calendar too. ;)

Free Boat Ride for 2!

Posted By on Mon, Jun 28, 2010 at 10:17 AM

Sorry T-Pain, you can't come this time - I've only got two free VIP passes aboard the Ragin' Uptown Party Yacht for Anchor Island

anchorisland

Every Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day, it's Anchors up for Anchors Island – which is actually a 90 foot Ragin Uptown charter yacht equipped with a cash bar, live music, Kiss 95.1 DJ and a water slide.

First person to e-mail me a line from "I'm on a Boat!" at brittney.cason@creativeloafing.com gets them ... then just show up at Fox and the Hound in Birkdale Village at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning!

But just so you know, there are more rules on Anchor Island than an elementary school field trip.

Free table at Butter

Posted By on Tue, May 25, 2010 at 10:26 AM

No, I'm not giving away kitchen furniture ... I'm inviting a group of friends to join me at my VIP table (equipped with a bottle) for Denny Hamlin's party tonight at Butter.

In NASCAR, if you're not first, you're last — but I honor 32 e-mails, one for every car in the standard field of a Cup race. I'll put the first 32 people to e-mail me at brittney.cason@creativeloafing.com on the list. But the first place winner gets to go to Victory Lane with a group of friends — as in the VIP table where drinks are on me. Shake and Bake!

Green Flag!

And earlier in the evening, join me at Rock Bottom for a Sex and the City Happy Hour where I'll be giving out tickets to see Sex and the City 2.

Getting "Carrie'd" away at Ladies' Night

Posted By on Fri, May 7, 2010 at 2:19 PM

The best thing about the Sex and the City 2 movie coming out is that it serves as a legitimate excuse to have a Ladies' Night out, every week.

Strike and the City is the new weekly Ladies' Night on Thursdays (at Strike City obviously). It is so elaborate for the ladies, it'll make men jealous we wear the tampons (in addition to the pants). The bowling alley transforms into a Utopia for women that includes massages, half priced martinis and a skinny app menu, Sex and the City airing on the televisions, and lots and lots of free shit. I even gave away some Gucci shoes...

strikeandcityguccishoes

The deal is, you get there around 8 p.m. - or just wander in from Alive After Five - and trade your shoes for bowling shoes. I will then select a shoe that will be matched to a number on the bowling shoe rental. If you have that number I will then trade you the bowling shoes, for a pair of red Gucci heels. It kinda made me feel like Prince Charming looking for my Cinderella ... but shouldn't it be the other way around?

Anyway... every time you get a strike you are registered for a raffle to win things like a Michael Kors clutch, an hour massage from Drift Spa, a personal training session and tickets to see the comedy show Girl's Only. And even if you don’t win, you still get a swag bag just for coming. Striiiiiiike!

Each week there will be a specialty martini - and when you order it, the proceeds go to the National MS Society. Might I suggest drinking that so you can justify ordering more than one. Drinking for a good cause ... I’ll cheers to that. The Walk MS is coming up May 15 by the way.

Speaking of Sex and the City 2... the official pre-screening event is at EpiCentre Theaters on May 26. And starting next Wednesday we'll be giving away VIP passes to the premiere. Don't you just love free shit!

Oh yes, it's ladies night, and the feeling's right - oh yes it's ladies night - oh what a, oh what a night! Sing it with me now ...

Let's talk about sex, baby!

Posted By on Fri, Apr 9, 2010 at 11:55 AM

Want to hear me talk about sex, and my philosophy on the state of the date? No, I'm not doing stand-up comedy...

Well if not don't worry, there will be a whole panel of people talking about it as well, at Love, Hope, Sex and Dreams: The New Rules for Dating and Relating in the New Decade.

I am giving away 2 pair of passes ... First two people to e-mail me at brittney.cason@creativeloafing.com wins them

You can get tickets here! And I'll still hook you up ... here's a promo code LHSD2010 to save $5 on tickets

If you want free VIP passes to a Bobcats game then keep reading...

Posted By on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 2:50 PM

The voting has commenced for the Lady Cats in the NBA dance team bracket. Translation: VOTE NOW!

To thank you for voting I’ll give you a pair of passes to join me in the Front Court Lounge for this Friday’s game against the Bucks and next Saturday’s game against the Pistons.

SAM_1035

The kicker is you have to sit there for 60 seconds and register on the NBA site - I know it’s a lot to ask for that much of your attention span, but time is money and the face value on these tickets are a lot higher than a minute worth of work … just saying.

How to play: Send me an e-mail at brittney.cason@creativeloafing.com with your NBA screen name and copy and paste the “Thank You for Voting.”

First 30 e-mails to hit my inbox scores. If you win, I will respond with the game for which your tickets are for and how to retrieve them.

I try to write back everyone that e-mails me to thank them for reading & playing, but that’s a lot of e-mails and I have a date tonight, at the UFC fight. So, if I don’t write you back, know that I love you AND if the Lady Cats advance to the next round I’ll be giving away more tickets. SO VOTE… cause you’ll win too.

Posted By on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 10:10 AM

Cool Kids Collective are a collection of cool kids with instruments that know how to make good music. And they're coming to Whisky River tomorrow for an April Fool's Party. Seriously. Not fooling. There's even a poster, as proof ...

fool on you poster

To be honest with you, I am not going to put my name on something unless it is going to be a good time. Because if it's not fun, well then I don't want to be there either.

Because this is a blog and not a public posting of my schedule, I am going to go ahead and just knock out what other events I'm involved with this month ...

I'm on the panel for this ...

And I'm a commentator for this ...

Oh, and one more thing ... I am giving away 100 VIP Passes to the remaining home regular season Bobcats games, via my Twitter. Follow to find out how to get in on that action.

A midnight puck with the Checkers

Posted By on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 10:34 AM

For the first time ever, the Charlotte Checkers will be dropping the puck at MIDNIGHT this Thursday, Feb. 18. They call it dropping the puck... I like to call it a "Puck Off" And since the Puck-Off is at midnight (11:59 p.m. to be exact) they're making a party out of it. DJ Rozak from 106.5 The End will be on the mic, and of course they're making a pub crawl out of it too - with who else, RockHouse Events

midnightmadness2[1]

Sounds fun, doesn't it? Wanna go? Well, I'm giving away 4 pairs of passes to the game ... and the first four to e-mail carl.tucker@creativeloafing.com (with the subject line: Midnight Puck) gets them.

Ballin' on a budget

Posted By on Mon, Feb 1, 2010 at 11:33 AM

I posted the following on my Facebook page: Brittney Cason is writing an article about "Ballin' on a Budget"... where can people go to find the best drink specials?! ... and nightlife on clearance? And I got so many informative responses, I figured I might as well just post the comment thread for your infotainment...

Jayson Knight: Al Mike's. As far as nightlife on a budget, anything outside of 28202. Dammit Janet is tons of fun.

Jason Sandwick: No such thing unless you are female...then you can do it anywhere there are guys....

Matt McLean: or a hot gay guy........

Bailie Ann Thompson: Try most places in Plaza-Midwood or NoDa-you'll be out under $50 food and drink!

Rachel Sunset Miller: Well, it's not $1 beer night, but The Sunset Club has $100 bottle/VIP service and 1/2 price bottles of wine on Wednesday night.

Jay Hagerman: My buddy started www.charlottehappyhour.com. It'll have everything you need for each day of the week.

Hannah Toole: Trader Joes is where you can ball on a budget- 3 buck chuck!(wine) Angry Ale's has $2 domestic Mondays and Brixx Pizza has half price wine on Sunday's, $1.95 domestic drafts on Monday (including microbrews)

Sophia Burrowes: Zink American Kitchen! Everyday there is a $2 beer special and $5 liquor special. Half price sushi from 5 - 7 Mon thru friday. $2 drafts on Saturdays ALL DAY (sam adams, milk stout, etc.) Come out tomorrow from 5 - 7 for happy hour with The McDevitt Agency and check it out! Great for your article.

George Pappas Park Lanes: Bowling is $.79 a game on Monday Nights from 9pm-cl. We also run a Sunday Night Special from 8pm-11pm for $11.99 per person. The shoe rental is free with both of these specials.

Lauren Elizabeth Thomas: I work at Town Tavern and wanted to pitch in their specials. On Wed we do $2.50 Ultras, Coors lights and $4 well drinks. On Thursdays its Beer pong night we start about 9 and do 25 cent Miller light draft and $2 Miller light bottles. Fridays between 8-10 we have $2 you call it. That excludes top shelf like Greygoose and patron but everything else including beer and wine is $2! And Saturday its $2.50 Bud lights! Hope this helps your article

Quincy Blanco: I agree with Lauren .. Town Tavern iz def the place 2 Roc if U wanna ball on a budget!! .. went there last wk and had a blast!

Jason Astephen: Well 50 cent drafts on Thursday nights @ Buckhead should fit any budget!!!

Matthew T King-Lineberry: Hawthornes on 7th hands down...Monday nights they have ALL draughts $1.50. Great selection too. Good place to ease into the work week on the cheap. Hope all is well with you, Miss Cason

Amy Lyttle McCarter: 25 comments and my lame ass can't think of a single place to recommend. God, it's been a while since I've gotten out! :-P Good luck with the article.

Milton Boyd: I think your idea is well worth the effort.

Kristen Gaddis: Brixx Woodfire pizza, everyday we have a drink special, everyday except Monday we have $3.00 jagers, and royal flushes (only at the southpark location). And everyday after 10pm its buy one get one, meaning either 2 pizzas or appetizer for the price of one!

Have any other suggestions? Leave a comment below!
