Laugh MS at Lake Norman Comedy Zone on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Charlotte's Walk MS.

The event will feature co-headliners Frankie Paul and David L from Brotha Fred's AM Mayhem.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and show starts at 8.

Not only will the show make you "LOL," but it raises money to help fight the progressive, incurable disease known as Multiple Sclerosis ... the disease my sister is fighting.

To give you some insight into Multiple Sclerosis and my family's battle with the disease, I have enclosed an article I wrote for the National MS Society newsletter...

Salute Wine Bar & Store closes

Posted By on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 12:43 PM

Mobile update:

salute-mobile-upload.webp

I went to Polished Nail Bar's new location in Myers Park (next to the Manor Theater) and found that Salute Wine Bar closed and is now a Thai restaurant: Salute Wine Store & Bar.

Random Brittney Revelation:

As I was sitting at the light up from Salute, the intersection of Queens & Queens and Providence & Providence, I couldn't help but wonder why Charlotte does that to people ... even my GPS said WTF?

R.I.P Alive After Five

Posted By on Fri, Apr 17, 2009 at 11:29 AM

... at Wachovia Plaza that is, because next Thursday the merger takes effect and the EpiCentre takes over After Five.

Let us pay our respects …

live-after-five-grave.webp

A picture of it looks like a page from a Where's Waldo?book. Find the guy in the crowd that looks like he might have been a back-up dancer for MC Hammer back in the '90s.

last-live-after-five-0061.webp

Although it is sad ... don’t grieve too much because I come baring gifts.

I got more V.I.P passes for the Pavilion at EpiCentre After Five to give away. The first five people to become members of my blog group win a free membership to the Penthouse at the EpiCentre.

Alive After Five … same time (Thursdays after five), different place.

Posted By on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 3:01 PM

While Wells Fargo took over Wachovia, the EpiCentre took over the Alive After Five at Wachovia. Another merger has occurred ... Alive After Five is now EpiCentre After Five. See the band line up here

This Thursday is the first Alive After Five ... yet the last at the Wachovia Plaza. They’re having a farewell fiesta at Wachovia with Liquid Pleasure, and next week the merger and move takes effect.

epi-after-5.webp

Last week, I went for the media and sponsor kick-off party for EpiCentre After Five to check out the Penthouse in the Pavillion. The rooftop bar provides a good view of the Charlotte’s skyline and the stage the bands will perform on ... and is a mere flight of stairs away from the after-after parties at Suite and Blackfinn.

blackfinn-bunny1.webp

Speaking of Blackfinn, the Blackfinn (Easter) Bunny made an appearance at the Penthouse … and kinda resembled the rabbit from the Red Door. He was passing out Easter eggs with candy and free drink tickets ...

And I am passing out free V.I.P memberships to the EpiCentre Penthouse. The first 10 people to e-mail (brittney.cason@creativeloafing.com) and tell me why I was included within the 100 Greatest Moments in MAXIM History

Apparently, they didn't get the memo ... HOM closed (again)

Posted By on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 7:55 AM

The same day I got an e-mail with the subject line:

HOM closes, again

I got another e-mail with the subject line:

LISA SHAW performs at HOM, CHARLOTTE, NC on Saturday April 25th - PRESS OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE!

Apparently they didn't get the memo, HOM closed - or just didn't reopen rather. Guess we won't be making the Lisa Shaw show. Shucks.

Whitewater Center un’zips’ new pick-up lines

Posted By on Mon, Apr 6, 2009 at 11:41 AM

While I am wild as in slightly crazy, my friend, Jonathan, is wild as in the wilderness, so, while I was up in NYC being a city girl, I called on my outdoorsy boy to attend the season grand opening of the US National Whitewater Center and the unveiling of the new mega zip line. Zip-a-dee-do-dah, Zip-a-dee-ay ... my oh my what a shitty day (to be outside embarking on outdoor activities that is).

By Jonathan Grubbs

Rainy weather didn’t stop the U.S. National Whitewater Center from un’zipping’ its new Mega Zip attraction last Thursday. Mayor Pat McCrory and County Councilwoman JenniferRoberts even came for the unveiling of their four new 1,123-foot long ziplines extending across the unruly rapids of the world’s largest Olympic whitewater training center. Unfortunately, the mayor and councilwoman were both ‘uninvited’ to ride it due to the rainy and ‘unsafe’ weather conditions. As a consolation, they both decided to ride down the class III and IV rapids together... in the rain.

Although this even marked the official introduction of the Mega Zip, it’s actually been open to the public since last November — and I’ve had the privilege of zipping down the zipline, reaching speeds of around 20 mph.

Breaking nightlife news

Posted By on Thu, Apr 2, 2009 at 5:00 AM

HOM is where the party is. HOM is re-opening this Saturday with Redman’s DJ, DJ Dice and DJ Magic from Power 98. I wonder if DJ Magic does magic tricks at his appearances ... cause that would be even cooler.

For the big UNC game TILT is having a Pig Roast serving up Carolina Bar-B-BLUE and $2 Tarheel shots (Saturday 7 – 11 p.m. )

If you like big butts, I will not lie … you need to go to the 1st Annual “Celebration of Curves” Fashion Show Saturday at Grand Central Events & Catering. Hosted by Jaye Delai of Jaye & Monica and featuring The Kurvy Kuties of ATL and Curveaous Cuties Calendar Models

Crave dessert bar and lounge opened up last night ... sweet! (literally)

Décor 1202 is also new on the nightlife menu, it opened last week on CPCC campus. Friday is their first First, First Friday, which according to the flier is “America’s #1 Urban Event and Afterparty”

Ding! Ding! Ding! The Battle of the Thursday Happy Hours has a winner ... the EpiCentre.

There will be an "Alive After Five Thank You Celebration" on Thursday April 16 at the Wachovia Plaza then Charlotte's biggest event is permanently moving to the EpiCentre. The launch of Alive After Five At EpiCentre kicks off Thursday April 23 at the Pavilion at EpiCentre.

What are you doing this weekend? How about this...

Posted By on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 7:47 AM

Fashion Friday at KISS Lounge, which is introducing both the new Christian Audigier line and the AMPED 4-a-cure concert series - a philanthropy supporting cancer research through music. Friday Small Doses with special guest Tommy DeCarlo of the legendary Boston will be fighting cancer, as in performing.

fashion_friday_3_27_20091.webp

I'm actually hosting the event ... the last time I hosted a fashion show I got yelled at for pronouncing BeBe as “bay-bay” as opposed to the correct pronunciation: “bee-bee.” With that said, can someone please tell me how to properly pronounce Audigier before handing me a microphone?

Doors open at 9 p.m.

Breaking nightlife news: enso opening, Wachovia Phillip's Place Block Party relocated, HOM to reopen and ...

Posted By on Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 6:26 AM

sushi-love-127x300.webp

• Word on the street is enso Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar is opening in the EpiCentre in April, and is suppose to give Nikko a run for its money ... which is going to be hard considering it’s hard to top a boa-wearing, tambourine-shaking, karaoke-singing owner. SUSHI LOVE!

• The Wachovia Championship Block Party in Phillip’s Place has been canceled ... well, relocated rather  to Piedmont in South Park.

• HOM was foreclosed on, but it’s now under renovations and is set to reopen in two months as an upscale urban club – kinda like Grand Central did.

mythos-190x300.webp

• On Friday, March 27, Mythos is having a reunion party... at Forum, where it once existed. DJ Kastanas will be playing the old school beats to the old school crowd. I'm sure for the old Mythos regulars, getting word about the reunion made them feel as old as I did when I got the invite (over facebook nonetheless) to my 10 year high school reunion in October.

• The Dirty Martini is opening in Lake Norman, Cornelius if you will: 17036 Kenton Drive Suite 104, Cornelius, N.C. 28031 to be exact.

New club opening in Uptown

Posted By on Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 1:33 PM

Breaking news in the world of nightlife — there's a new club opening up.

The ugly coyotes were run out of town by the LUNA ... tics. (Don’t think too much into that, it’s merely a play on words)

luna-200x300.webp

The opening date has not yet been confirmed, but LUNA Lounge is opening sometime in the near future in the old Coyote Ugly building in Uptown.

Word on the street is it will have a glassed in patio and a cabana style rooftop patio. The color scheme and decor is similar to that of the Sunset Club before they remodeled, with the russet oranges, dark reds and rich browns. Which pretty much makes it a Virginia Tech bar by school color default, no?

They’ll have sectional VIP seating similar to that in KISS Lounge and will be serving a Tapas style menu. Thursday nights will be college night (mash ups, top 40, mainstream), Fridays will be designated for Tec House (Electronica and house music) and Saturdays will be Loca Luna International Nights.

Stay tuned for the opening date and chances to win tickets to the grand opening party!
