New York City doesnt sleep and nor did I for the 50 some hours I was there.
Tuesday morning I woke up in Charlotte at 6:15 a.m. with my flight leaving at 6 ... shit!
I literally jumped out of bed and basically threw a temper tantrum everything short of laying on the floor kicking and wailing my arms. $200 pissed down the drain later, I sat down and shut the front door. I made a mistake oh well!
I decided that rather than beating myself up about it, I should just chalk it up to fate. A fate mistake. There was a legitimate reason I missed my flight ... and not just because I turned my alarm off rather than pressing the snooze button to try and sneak in that extra 9 minutes of sleep. At least thats what I keep telling myself.
I flew to NYC for the MAXIM Magazine reunion party. As in the staffs five-year-reunion. I was enrolled in the Dennis Pub Club, Class of 2004. Because although I worked for Dennis Publishing right out of college, we played more than I did while in college. We even had a co-ed intramural softball team that had multiple cases of PBR quietly confiscated by the Central Park security in the middle of the game. I even made the greatest 100 moments of MAXIM history ... (number 34) for winning a hush puppy eating contest. I ate my way to the middle.
Winter may be over, but if you still havent migrated south, it's about time to make a spring flight because theres never been a better time to fly over to Ballantyne. While Brittney's out of town, I headed back out to see what's going on...
If youre ready to mix it up, Ballantyne Village, is hosting a Mix at Six during the month of April. Even better, Simplified will be playing on April 22 and on April 29 will be Coconut Grove. Could it be any simpler? So, with the rush of spring fever, step out of the club for a night and head outdoors.
For more outside music, Ballantyne Village has the Live Music in the Plaza event sponsored by the Village Bistro just in case mixing isnt for you. Band names haven't been released yet, but the events are on April 4, 11, 18 and 25 and will start at 6:30 p.m.
If they say New York is the city that never sleeps, than Charlotte is the city that never walks. Thats right readers, Ballantyne is hosting another bar crawl on April 3. Ballantynes Nightlife Crawl , costs $10 per person and starts at 6:30 p.m. till 2 a.m. The crawl begins at On the Roxx, Ballantyne or Wild Wing Café in Epicenter... which, I dont mean to be technical, but is definitely not in Ballantyne.
And located underneath the flashy lights, you know the ones I told you Im always swerving by, there is Ballantyne Theatre. The theatre specializes in independent films... but from time to time they take us back to the past with its retro film series a revisit to the movies that started it all kinda like this article for me! Tickets are $5 and in the past theyve shown movies such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Blade Runner and more. And just like Epicenter, Ballantyne offers gourmet foods and alcohol!
So as long as the rain stays away, we can all go out to Ballantyne to play.
Fashion Friday at KISS Lounge, which is introducing both the new Christian Audigier line and the AMPED 4-a-cure concert series - a philanthropy supporting cancer research through music. Friday Small Doses with special guest Tommy DeCarlo of the legendary Boston will be fighting cancer, as in performing.
I'm actually hosting the event ... the last time I hosted a fashion show I got yelled at for pronouncing BeBe as bay-bay as opposed to the correct pronunciation: bee-bee. With that said, can someone please tell me how to properly pronounce Audigier before handing me a microphone?
Doors open at 9 p.m.
As the bi-polar weather warms up and spring break arrives, the out-of-control moments seem more unbearable than usual. By out of control, Im referring to my computer crashing before mid-terms, as opposed to being on some beach with a tropical drink in hand. Ill be spending my break at work, which brings me even quicker into the real world. For these symptoms of spring fever, I decided to play doctor for those college students like me who have to forgo the break and for those already in the real world that dont even get a break. And Im prescribing cures that are anything but Tylenol and rest although you might need them after the fact.
Rx 1: Get your ass outside!
Go play a round of golf at one of the many courses throughout Charlotte... or, for those that suck at golf like me, theres the alternative putt-putt. The Lost Duffer, located in the University area, is a mini-golf course designed like an old mining shaft. For $4.50, you can play nine holes outside and nine holes underground.
Rx 2: Take a shot or two and call me in the morning.
For those of us not flying the coop, there is Stool Pigeons. There are three locations in Charlotte University, Uptown and Matthews. Each location offers big screen televisions playing all your favorite sports, and Stool Pigeons daily drink specials make obeying the doctors orders easier than ever and although the coast feels miles away, Boardwalk Billys at University brings seafood and the beach vibe to Charlotte... minus the girls in bikinis (like the neighboring breast-e-raunt Bikinis).
