Until it perished in 2005, Charlotte Rep had a new play festival every year. Now with nuVoices Festival at Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, we have an even better one. As before, two staged readings are presented of four different playscripts, followed by a pow-wow between the audience and the playwright. Nearly 300 scripts were submitted to nuVoices for its second year and, monetarily, all four finalists were winners. But unlike Rep's winners, the nuVoices playwrights compete for Best-of-Festival honors and the chance for a full production next season. Narrow Daylight, the 2012 winner, thus completed the first nuVoices cycle in a full production that opened back in July. Exciting, provocative and absolutely vital. www.atcharlotte.org/nuvoices2/
