MATCHA MATCHA MATCHA - What's all the hype about?

MATCHA MATCHA MATCHA

Matcha green tea powder is an amazing source of nutrition as it is a super food and could add an essential amount of value to your diet. We are what we ingest from the water to the foods that we choose to eat. Matcha powder can implement an array of healthy nutrients from the entire tea leaf, thus resulting in greater amounts of caffeine and antioxidants compared to other general green teas. Matcha has been named as a go-to for celebrities and credited as the good-for-you energy drink. Regular matcha drinkers say it provides the mental sharpness of caffeine without the jitters and anxiety.

The matcha trend is popular, but for good reason.  Here are a few reasons why:

Rich in antioxidants

Matcha is abundant in antioxidants, which have been linked to protection against heart disease and cancer, blood sugar regulation, blood pressure reduction, and anti-aging.  The antioxidants help to regulate and stabilize the free radicals in the body thus preventing the damaging of cells and chronic disease. Matcha powder has all the nutrients plus more antioxidants than boiling the leaves in water. Matcha powder provides the most minerals, nutrients and amino acids than any other form of green tea.

In fact, by one estimate, the number of certain catechins in matcha powder is up to 137 times greater than in other types of green tea (1)

Reduces stress, induces relaxation

The matcha tea was discovered over 1,000 years ago in Japan, it was specifically used for meditation. Matcha contains a rare amino acid described as L-Theanine which produces alpha waves in the brain thus providing a state of relaxation while able to remain alert. L-Theanine in the matcha produces 5 times more amino acids compared to other black and green teas, helping with memory and concentration.

Helps You Lose Weight

Modern science have proven the benefits of matcha to be true. Drinking the tea can result in an increase of thermogenesis; the bodies own ability to burn calories. There have been studies which findings prove matcha can help to improve physical endurance by up to 24%.

A review of 11 studies also showed that green tea reduced body weight and helped maintain weight loss (2).

Helps Prevent Disease

The tea provides vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium. Matcha detoxifies the body naturally prevents disease, lowers cholesterol and so much more.

Matcha is especially high in epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a type of catechin that has been shown to have powerful anti-cancer properties (3).
