Pop Life

Plus, the editor's guide to freelance writing

POP LIFE
Charlotte nightlife sucks? Well, yeah ... sometimes it does. To remedy that, the folks here at CL have teamed up with local promoter Michael Kitchen (of The Sol Kitchen) to create Pop Life.

What the hell is Pop Life? It's a weekly, multimedia nightlife event featuring art, fashion, live performances and a host of DJs playing the most eclectic blend of music in the city -- from soul to funk to afro-beat, Brazilian, house and more.

To be held at Prevue (formerly Gilda's, 2901 N. Davidson St., Charlotte) Pop Life runs every Wednesday for just three months. The event kicks off with an RSVP-only opening party on May 16. To get on the guest list, send an e-mail to carlton.hargro@creativeloafing.com.

THE EDITOR'S GUIDE TO FREELANCE WRITING
Presenting a four-hour, boot-camp-styled workshop designed to transform amateur journalists into paid, published writers. This workshop, taught by CL Editor in Chief Carlton Hargro, is perfect for novice writers who dream of seeing their work published in a magazine or newspaper.

The first class kicks off May 19 in the Gypsy Lounge at Pura Vida Worldly Art (1521 Central Ave., Charlotte, 704-335-8587). Instruction begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.
