Sparkling deals for New Year's Eve

• For a deal, Robert Balsley recommends the Conde de Subirats, a Cava Brut for $13; Canard-Duchene Brut Champagne ($30), and his best buy is the Schramsberg Brut Rose Mirabelle, a non-vintage sparkler that Wine Spectator rated 93 ($25). His non-sparkler wine suggestions include the "killer" Praxis Pinot Noir, Monterey ($20) and a white Burgundy Joseph Drouhin St. Véran 2005 ($19). Arthur's Wine Shop, in Belk at SouthPark Mall.

• Chuck Richards suggests the consistently good tasting Gruet Brut made via Traditional Method, New Mexico, $13; and Soligo Brut Prosecco from Italy for $16. His real steal, though, is Cain Lake Petite Sirah for $7. Reid's Fine Foods, 225 E. 6th St.

• Recommendations from Conrad Hunter include Canard-Duchêne Champagne ($33), the crisp 2008 Man Vintners Chenin blanc from coastal South Africa 2008 ($12), and The Climber ($12), a California red wine from the Clif Family Winery (the same company behind the Clif bar) just for fun. The Wine Shop in Foxcroft East Village, 7824 Fairview Road; and 14142 Rivergate Parkway.

• Wine Manager Michelle Brisbane suggests the Louis Bouillot sparkler "made in Burgundian style" for $16, the non-vintage Bernard Bremont Grand Cru Champagne ($30), and if not buying the bubbly, she suggests Madrone Knoll cabernet ($40) or a floral Phebus Torrontes from Argentina for $9. Total Wine, Crossings Shopping Center, 10052 E. Independence Blvd., Matthews.
