When I got tickets to the Panthers' away game against the Titans, I was out like a girl scout on a new cookie route to Nashville. And on that cookie route was a nightlife culture far different than that of the Q.C. They don't call it Nashvegas for nothing.
Cason-Point: My first time in Nashville, I was approached by Mindy McCready – the country music equivalent to Britney Spears. She said she wanted to hook me up with her brother and invited me and my friends to this party she was going to ... random.
For game weekend, we did the honkey tonk tourist thing and went to the The Stage and Tootsies, the ultimate country bars. In Nashville, live music of all forms is everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. Starving artists are lined up and down the streets singing for their supper.
You know what else they had everywhere ...? Mexican wrestlers. We went to Agave Tequila Lounge, which was decorated with Mexican wrestling masks, and watched a Mexican wrestling amateur movie on the big screen. The next day, we went shopping at Hillsborough Village and they had Mexican wrestling merchandise for sale everywhere. I don't get it.
I love me some Nashvegas, but home is where the heart is. And by home I mean the new addition to our nightlife culture -- Hom.
At Hom you can liv, play and feast. Both the top level club (Play) and the bottom level lounge (Liv) are open and the restaurant (Feast) opens up at the end of the month.
Once you get past bouncer-the-grouch and pay the cover, you enter into a home with lots of hospitality compliments of the Hom boys. Amongst the directors of good times are owners Andre Araiz, James Funderfurk and Alvaro Kraizel. And then you have Constantine Mouzakitis who migrated over from Cans, Roland Ashley and Mark Lista, Andy from the Charlotte crew and waitresses donning dresses that look like disco balls.
Liv, the lounge downstairs, is so dark everyone looks like silhouettes. They have calf-high lines of coaches you can spread out on and a dance floor to mingle and groove on, but beware of the misleading mirror that makes the room appear bigger than it actually is.
And at Play you can work up a sweat on the dance floor then walk outside and cool off on the massive couch and bamboo clad patio. It's like Extreme Hom Makeover went in there -- Menage is merely now just a mirage. It's as though it never existed.
Click your heels together and repeat after me: "There's no place like HOM!" While you do that I'll plan my next trip to Nashvegas.
