Things to do in Charlotte for $5 or less

Community theater, milk mustache tour

LEARN TO MEDITATE Take it from loyal practitioners of meditation: There's nothing like it to take the stress of your workday off your shoulders. That's why the Pain & Rehab Institute is offering a free class in the breathing techniques and imagery used in ancient qi gong meditation (betcha didn't know there was more than one kind). The office is located at 128 E. Plaza Drive in Mooresville. Classes are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Call 704-649-1629 to get started on the path to serenity.

GOT MILK? MILK MUSTACHE MOBILE TOUR Learn how to incorporate healthier beverage options into your diet by milk-ing your life. This free event is chock full of family-oriented activities like: milk sampling, a dietitian-led beverage analysis, exercise demos with Curves and a milk mustache photo shoot -- DUH!! Wednesday, May 16, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The Arboretum, 3339 Pineville-Matthews Rd. www.thinkaboutyourdrink.com.

DISTINCTIVE LAUGHS Tired of the same old comedy club acts? A brand-new comedy night has dropped on the scene. On Wednesdays you're invited to experience underground comedy (shh, keep it low). Show at 8 p.m.; $5 cover. Location: The WineUp, 3306 N. Davidson St. Contact: charlottecomedy@gmail.com.

COMMUNITY THEATER/THEATER ABOUT COMMUNITY Now, this may seem a little biased, what with the editor of this section being involved and all. However, I assure you (Scouts Honor!) of the value of such an event in Charlotte. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee have really done it this time, taking people of all races, ages, and backgrounds and sending them through diversity boot camp in the hopes of documenting the process through drama. And drama, they got. Community Theater/Theater About Community premieres Wednesday, May 16. It provides an accurate portrait of Charlotte, equally dwelling in the bright spots and the shadows. Come out and see this vital show and maybe walk away with a better sense of self. May 16-18, 8 p.m. Pease Auditorium, CPCC Central Campus, 1201 Elizabeth Ave. 704-336-2605. www.crossroadscharlotte.org.

TANGO & TAPAS Patou and the Charlotte Tango Society host this free informal lesson on the Argentinian tango, perfect for making friends. Learn this sensual dance and improve existing skills with instructor Daniel Arredondo. Monday nights at 7 p.m. Patou, A French Bistro, 1315 East Blvd. Call 704-376-2233 or visit www.patoubistro.com or www.passionfortango.com.
