Colby "Cornell" Boone, a recent graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, is the CEO and Founder of Journey of Mind Inc., a 501C(3) non-profit organization that raises awareness for mental health, personal development and travel within underprivileged communities.

Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. (46.6 million) experience mental illness in a given year.

Among the 20.2 million adults in the U.S. who experienced a substance use disorder, 50.5%—10.2 million adults—had a co-occurring mental illness. https://www.nami.org/learn-more/mental-health-by-the-numbers

Journey of Mind is set out to provide resources and has many goals aligned to their purpose.

1. Create fun and engaging events that raise awareness of Mental health and the corresponding services available in the community.
2. Teach different practices of positive self-care to be used by everyone from all different walks of life.
3. Promote overall wellness and a healthy lifestyle.

“In the next five years we plan to be a fully functioning facility which will act as a hub of innovation, changing the stereotypical normality of the therapy/counseling experience . We will do so by incorporating walking trails, physical activity and more. The goal is for our flagship center to act as a pillar in the community for personal development, meeting people where they are in their journey with the services they need, “ Boone shared.

Journey of Mind is only in its second full year of operation, but is hosting city-wide events through strategic partnerships in the Charlotte community. Most recently, the organization partnered with the YMCA of Charlotte for "Kicks for Life,” their annual kickball tournament. This event fosters relationships among corporate entities and counseling centers in the community to provides information and resources to attendees.

Colby has surrounded himself with a team of individuals who share his passion for serving others.

Imani Carter serves as Vice-President of Journey of Mind. Miss Carter is also a recent graduate North Carolina A&T State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in May of 2018. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a certification in Family and Marriage Therapy from A&T as well. Her passion for being an advocate for mental health has stemmed from not only her personal experience but also seeing how it affects those around her. She lives by the quote "Be the change you want to see in the world.”
