Yesterday I had to stop by IKEA to pick up something for a friend of mine. Unfortunately, IKEA isn't really one of those places where you can stop by quickly to pick something up.
Check out this big-ass candle I discovered in the candle section as I was trying to make my way to the self-serve warehouse. It's unreal how tall this thing is. $24.99, but it does not come with the base.
I'd like someone to buy it and tell me how long it takes to burn out.

It is no surprise that with the condition of our economy, the image of Charlotte would soon shift away from a dominating banking city. Now, it appears that local bankers have been replaced with fashion professionals who have one mission in mind: Turn Charlotte into a fashion hub.
This movement is being lead by the|Fashion House, a new company in Charlotte. Their purpose is to provide fashion niche marketing for boutiques and independent designers. What does that mean? As noted on their online blog, the|Fashion House utilizes innovative event production, viral promotions, personalized PR strategies and creative branding to create experiences for clients.
We really want to focus on the fact that we are merging fashion and philanthropy so that it is truly fashion with a purpose, says Jameka Whitten, Director of Business Operations for the|Fashion House, Fashion that is fun, entertaining and that means something.
And the|Fashion House has achieved just that with its quarterly signature event Fashion Friday. On March 27, Fashion Friday in association with LA East Boutique presents: Christian Audigier at Kiss Lounge. This event will introduce the Amped 4-A-Cure Concert Series: Supporting Cancer Research Through Music. In addition, there will be a live performance from Small Doses, a band out of Wilmington, N.C., a fashion show and giveaways. The show will be hosted by Creative Loafings own Brittney Cason, and Tommy DeCarlo, from the legendary band Boston will make a special appearance. A portion of proceeds will benefit cancer research. For more information about this event, email ff@fashion-friday.com or visit www.fashion-friday.com.
Im so excited about the |Fashion Houses potential and what it will mean to the fashion and style industry here in Charlotte. We have an incredibly talented team, and we definitely have some surprises up our sleeves for the Queen City, says Whitten.
And, the best part: you can see him for FREE.
The colorful designer with the magic touch -- Isaac Mizrahi -- is coming to Charlotte. He'll be part of a Liz Claiborne New York fashion show at Belk SouthPark at 1 p.m. April 18.

Meet Kymm McLean. If you're fast enough. This woman works seven days a week, doing everything from wardrobe styling, hair styling and makeup for models to makeup lessons and makeovers for girls' birthday parties.
Creative Loafing: Tell me a little about what you do.
Kymm McLean: Im a freelance makeup artist and hairstylist, but I also do wardrobe and styling. So when a photographer is going to do a photo shoot with a model, or an agency needs a model to work on their portfolio, Ill do her hair, her makeup, and put together her wardrobe, then Ill go on set and actually style them and pose them.
I also do makeovers and teach makeup. Ive taught classes at Aveda and the Art Institute. I work in all different kinds of environments. Ive even done kids birthday parties for little girls.
I've also been to peoples houses, like if theres a big gala at the Mint Museum, a lot of the attendees in Myers Park, theyll call me and Ill go to their house and do their makeup. A girl had a birthday party and I did her and all 10 of her friends before they went out to the club. I've been to hotel rooms and do people who are in town for special events. I literally get such random phone calls all the time. Im doing NASCAR guys for a Tylenol commercial this week. Theres really nothing that I dont do. And thats another reason why Im as big as I am because I am very diverse.
So you pretty much do everything?
I actually make clothes too. Its crazy. I use to sell my stuff in boutiques on Melrose in L.A. I make hats and jewelry. What I really like to do is buy like a pair of already made shoes or jeans or a shirt, and I like to deconstruct it and add things to it and kind of redo the whole thing.
