News When cutting's not enough

I'm sure retailers have pretty much had it up to HERE with this recession.
U.S. retailers, which have banked heavily on cost cuts to guard margins in the recession, may be running out of ways to trim expenses further -- putting future profits in jeopardy, unless consumers open their wallets soon.

On Saturday, May 16, Tara Michelle Davis, designer and owner of FLOW by Tara Davis, held an exclusive trunk show showcasing her much anticipated Spring 2009 Collection at FUZE Salon. Her contemporary designs are a hot commodity for the spring and summer seasons. The collection consists of a vibrant spring palette and silhouettes perfect for every body type. Features / Events Wanna be a stiletto girl?

Last night at Belk Theater, I noticed two women walking gingerly down the stairs. They were late for the show, but they seemed to be in no rush. In fact, each step was taken with extreme caution. I looked down at their feet and immediately sympathized: They were wearing stilettos. Very fly stilettos, too.
Maybe they're a part of the Stiletto Girls?
The Observer ran a story about the Stiletto Girls recently, a local networking group for women that has grown to about 252 members since it was founded in January.
Started by Charlottean Susan Bear in January, the group has grown every month, and about 40-50 people attend the meetings, held the first Thursday of every month. Bear, whose day job is with Carolinas Healthcare System, lines up door prizes and vendors.Her motivation for starting the meetup.com group was simple, she says, and is without strings.
She loves to boutique shop, knows a lot of people in the fashion and beauty business, and wanted to create a place where women could socialize, network and find out more about the retail options available in Charlotte.
Their next event will be May 28: Luxury Special Stiletto Girl Event Benefit Brow Bar at Belk Southpark. The next monthly meetup will be June 4 at Apostrophe Lounge. Click here to check out their meetup.com page.

Tonight the theme at A Taste for Fashion, a fashion event that continues to go down every Thursday this month at Morrison, will be "A Night on the Town" and will be hosted by 107.9's Sheri Lynch from the Bob and Sheri show. The featured retailers will be ChezElle, Black & Blue the Denim Destination, and Scout & Molly's and goes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Wine and beer will be available with all proceeds benefitting The Western NC Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The event is brought to you by Morrison at Southpark, Carolina Talent and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
