The Commerce Department says retail sales dropped 0.4 percent last month. Guess folks haven't started buying their summer wardrobes yet.

Sales / Events Upcoming: Ivy & Leo's grand opening

Ivy & Leo, a women's boutique specializing in colorful and stylish clothing and accessories, will be holding its grand opening celebration on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. In addition to the specials, door prizes and wine and cheese offerings, the event will serve as a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Charlotte. Owner Stephanie Strauss named the boutique after her own two rescued dogs Ivy and Leo, and plans to donate 10 percent of the proceeds to help homeless pets.

News Energizer bunny can shave now

Maybe we'll see the Energizer bunny sporting a can of shaving cream when he goes on and on and on and on ... now that Energizer is set to buy SC Johnson shaving cream business.
Energizer Holdings Inc (ENR.N) said on Monday that it plans to buy S.C. Johnson & Son Inc's Edge and Skintimate brands for $275 million, adding shaving creams and gels to its Schick-Wilkinson Sword razor business.

North Carolina natives and Charlotte-based eco-entrepreneurs Carla Manna and Renee Fischer describe success this way:When friends and customers forget their Neela shopping bags in the trunk or at home, they say they won't accept a plastic or paper stand-in at the store. Instead, they juggle their purchases as they walk to the car.
The pair launched their company in May 2008 with the goal of making it easier for people to do their part in saving the planet. Manna had a background in textiles – she cut her teeth in the area working for Springs Industries – and finance wiz Fischer had relocated to the Los Angeles area, where municipalities have banned the distribution of plastic bags in stores.
So they developed a line of shopping bags that are convenient to carry (they fold up into an envelope), attractive (with about a dozen patterns and colors) and cheap – $7 each, at the low end of the tote market.
