Ever wonder where the most popular sneakers get their names from? Well, here's a neat informative piece on WSJ.com. For example, did you know that ADIDAS did not get its name from the acronym, "All day I dream about soccer"? Who'd have known?

Only one N.C. store was given the opportunity to carry the exclusive Nike Air Jeezy, rapper Kanye West's new shoe, and that store was Niche in SouthEnd.
With only 18 pairs of the highly coveted kicks in all of North Carolina, how does a person manage to snag a pair? They camp out.
More than two-dozen people camped out Friday night in front of a SouthEnd shoe store, each hoping to snag a pair of rapper Kanye Wests new $300 sneakers, the Air Yeezy. When Tyler Mansour heard the coveted shoes would be sold in Charlotte, he grabbed two of his friends and headed north from their homes in Charleston, S.C. They arrived in the Qcity around 10 a.m. Friday and set up camp, the first in line.
The trio waited all day Friday then sat through a cold, steady rain later that evening and into the night.
When you have a passion for sneakers, you gotta go where you gotta go, said Mansour, 19, who said he works at a Charleston sneaker store.

VALENTINO: THE LAST EMPEROR
DIRECTED BY Matt Tyrnauer
STARS Valentino Garavani, Giancarlo Giammetti
As far as documentaries about the couture culture go, Valentino: The Last Emperor runs out of thread long before its closing credits. By comparison, the 1995 Isaac Mizhari piece Unzipped provided a lot more, uh, zip than this nonfiction effort, which ultimately seems as self-absorbed as its central figure.
That icon is, of course, Valentino, considered one of the greatest of all Haute Couture fashion designers. The early going of the film is the most interesting, as audiences are provided brief glimpses into the creative process (Valentino and his army pour all their energies into his latest showcase) and allowed to witness the artists loving (if tempestuous) relationship with the infinitely more levelheaded Giancarlo Giammetti, his longtime companion and business partner.
Over the long haul, however, Valentino doesnt turn out to be a particularly interesting person, just a spoiled brat whose opulent lifestyle frequently leaves a bad taste in the mouth when the present economic situation springs to mind (as it frequently does when confronted with such extravagance). Director Matt Tyrnauer (a key staffer at Vanity Fair) completely succumbs to celebrity-gawking by the finale, which centers on a lavish evening meant to celebrate Valentinos 45th year in the business but also turns out to be his retirement party. Tyrnauer spends almost as much time ogling the A-listers in the audience as he does shooting the models on the runway. Look, theres Anne Hathaway! And theres Uma Thurman! Check out Sarah Jessica Parker and hubby Matthew Broderick! And isnt that Eva Mendes?
Yawn. If I really wanted to indulge in stargazing, Id just as soon hook up a telescope in the backyard and aim it at the night sky.
(Director Matt Tyrnauer will be in town this weekend for several Q&A sessions. Get the details here.)
Im sure you have heard the same incorrect assessment about Charlotte as I have. That Charlotte is years behind in fashion. Thats not totally true. Maybe Charlotte is not known for being on the cusp of fashion, nor is it leading the way for changes in the industry, but Charlotte has its own style, based on the image it wishes to be identified with. That is very different than being fashion-challenged.
I have lived in various major cities throughout my military career. In each of them I heard the same statement: _______ is months/ years behind New York in fashion.
Understand something: New York isnt about fashion. Manhattan is about fashion, namely Madison Avenue. That lovely stretch of road, in which advertisers try to convince us that a 510, 98lb female who looks like a clean, well-dressed, malnourished refugee from a destitute 3rd world country is what we should consider sexy. Thanks but no thanks.
Charlotte isnt about fashion its about image. It is about business, family. Charlotte is about corporate empowerment, and the financial sector. It wants to be seen as clean and friendly, yet financially powerful. The residents of Charlotte have their own style.
Im a private custom clothier. I assist gentlemen with the design of their wardrobes. My clients come from all over the country, and their styles match their careers and personalities. They are aware of the trends, but they just dont care. They have their own swagger, and its not dictated by Project Runway or BET. That, my friend, is image.
When establishing your image, you have to set and maintain a standard. You are creating brand equity. That can only be done by maintaining an established, consistent image. Once your image has been established, you can always enhance. But if your image fluctuates too often, you can lose credibility. Credibility is the foundation of survival in the corporate jungle. So changing your look every season has no real value. That is why the residents of the great city of Charlotte dont look like the residents of SOHO. If they wanted to stay with the trends, they are more than capable of doing so. They just dont want to.
Until next time
God Bless and dress well

A Pennsylvania woman has filed a suit against lingerie company Victoria's Secret over a bra design.
Heather M. Knox, of Monroeville, filed a lawsuit yesterday in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh claiming that the store's new BioFit 7-way bra infringes on her design.Knox patented her "multi-layer uplift bra" in 2006 with the federal government.
Knox says she came up with the idea because she had difficulty finding the right bra for her frame.
