A classic never fails

Posted By on Mon, Feb 28, 2011 at 11:52 PM

So many times we are bombarded with never-ending trends that change with every season, that often it is hard to keep up. Not just style-wise but also budget-wise, it can get pricey to keep purchasing new trendy items every time someone on E!, in Vogue or some fashion blogger tells you. That is why it is important to invest in classic pieces. So in the times when you don't remember if the snakeskin printed clutch or the neon colors are in — just grab the bag that will never let you down and you always get compliments on, because a classic never fails.

After looking at this list your fashion heart is going to be desiring these bags. I know mine does. Here are a few tips to be a smart shopper:

  • Don’t go beyond your budget. Do you really want to be paying interest on handbag for a year?
  • If you can’t afford the real deal, don’t buy a fake!
  • Shop at a consignment shop, or vintage store you can trust.
  • If you find a bag on Ebay, do your research make sure that it is real. Every designer has their own type of stitching and signatures that are unique to the real thing.
  • And remember … if it is too good to be true, it probably is.

Here are a few classics that are always loved and quite coveted as well. Now if I can only get my hands on some of these beautiful bags...

Quilted Chanel Double Chain

Vintage Chanel Double Chain Bag

You can never go wrong with Chanel. It is and always will be the standard for what is classic. These vintage pieces are quite pricey and for the average person (like me) not attainable. But sometimes it's not about having the exact piece but a bag that is similar. And no, I am not saying to buy a fake ... because a fake is never in style. Try a less expensive item that you can take care of and can be that backup classic in your closet. I have a little black leather Kate Spade that I consider my go-to. Currently, Kate Spade has a quilted line, the Gold Coast, which is much much cheaper than your standard Chanel. And if the Kate is still a little out of your price range try this handbag from Aldo.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas

LV Pouchette

Once again, another classic of classics. Just as you can't go wrong with Chanel you cannot go wrong with LV. I am lucky enough to own this pouchette that I purchased for a steal while I was in Japan. This was my very first Louis, and oh how I cherish it. If you want a bag with a similar monogram feature then, look no further than the Kristen Signature Handle Pouch by Coach or for a small leather bag this little Ralph Lauren number.

The Birkin by Hermes

The Birkin by Hermes

If you think Louis V is expensive, then you've never priced Hermes — it's almost in a category of its own. The Birkin bag is an "it" bag — when you own a Birkin you have arrived. If you dream in handbags, then the Birkin bag is most likely the bag you dream of most. As for me, I dream in shoes. Unless you are one of the lucky ones you need a bag more comparable to your budget, so try this bag...which I love!

Just a side note though: no matter the season, wear your pieces with pride. Confidence never goes out of style. Even if you are sporting a Members Only Jacket (I have a real vintage one and love it) do it with a screw you, I don't care what you think about what I am wearing attitude and that will get you further than anything else.
