A local clothing line is having a three-part summer event that will be sure to make Charlotteans' mouths drop.
Charlotte natives Sam Reams and Michael Smith have paired together to create a clothing line that is definitely a head turner. Their fan-named line, NAMEUS is different from any other brand here in Charlotte.
"Our provocative and gritty clothing is inspired by the streets, youth culture and out of just plain boredom with what is available in stores," said Reams.
This summer, NAMUES is throwing a three-part series event called Summer Grind to give exposure to local designers.
The first event on June 10 will showcase the tank tops NAMEUS has designed for summer and spotlight two other clothing designers with a hipster twist to their style. The event will be held at Jet Ultra Lounge with musical performances by Pac Div and Schyler Chaise.
The second event will include an art exhibit to show the less popular street-inspired art in 3D form. The final event includes a skateboarding competition, special appearance by Dom Kennedy and more local designers.
"Each event will show more and more of what NAMEUS has to offer in the brand," Reams said.
These events were put together to demonstrate how clothes are inspired by everyone whether your interest is music, art or extreme sports.
Tickets and a limited edition tee are now available at www.nameus.bigcartel.com.
Reams adds, "If you are young and ready to experience something different than anything else this summer, we expect you there."
I regularly frequent Amelie's French Bakery in NoDa to hang out, meet with friends, use the free WiFi (of course) but most importantly I enjoy pigging out on all the french pastries. That may cause me to gain a few pounds but what the heck you only live once. Not to mention, I can always pick up a few new clothing items to disguise it.
Just the other day, I ran across a new boutique in the same building called Runway Style Studio. They had quite a few items I could see myself in, and as a matter of fact, I fell deeply in love with a Anama' Maxi dress. This dress style was very popular last year and will continue to be right on trend this summer. If you need another style to camouflage the mid-section, try the tiered ruffle tank also by Anama'. Some of the other brands this store carries is Laila Jayde, Fluxus, and HAPI by Hapiru.
With everything from Jumpers, tops, dresses and various bottoms, all moderately priced, there's so much to see at Runway Style Studio. There's also a great selection of jewelry and sunglasses that any stylish woman would love, and I agree that this, as the owners boast, is a "studio that has a very relaxed Soho feel with a Carolina twist." Oh and men, please don't feel left out. There are stylish button down shirts, comfortable tees and trendy Jeans just for you. Seduka Jeans is one of the major collections available here for men. And if anyone out there is just the slightest bit fashion-challenged, there's always a personal fashion consultant on hand to assist you. Stop by and have a glass of wine ... on me.
Runway Style Studio is located at 2424 N. Davidson St., Suite 112B in NoDa. 704-910-3057

The Metropolitan area in Charlotte is a great place to hang out, but not just for the food, but also for the shopping at lotus boutique. Be sure to come out for a spectacular night of fashion on Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. The show will be held in the breezeway right next to Dresslers restaurant.
From the Mexican Riviera to the Sahara Desert, the lotus Summer Collection 2011 will be arriving in style on the runway. Vitaminwater will also be showcasing seven local designers competing in the Vitaminwater bottle inspired fashion show challenge. Each designer will create an outfit inspired by the one of the seven new flavors of Vitaminwaters line of beverages, Vitaminwater zero. How exciting! I love the fact that the inspiration for the designs will be centered around a drink. That just goes to show that creative types can get ideas from anything.
The local designers involved include Stamatina Vassilaras, who will be working with vitaminwater zero- glow, Franklin Headen with vitaminwater zero- xxx, Tara Davis with vitaminwater- energy, Caleb Clark with vitaminwater-drive, Erika Diamond with vitaminwater -power-c, Hannlei Taylor with vitaminwater zero-rhythm, and Cigi Guzman with vitaminwater zero- squeezed. I can hardly wait to see what they all come up with.
Wanna be there too? You should and you can. Tickets to both shows are free! There is, however a recommended $10 door donation to benefit Dress for Success. Send your RSVP TODAY to info@lotuslook.com for seats. (Seating is limited.)

What's on your agenda for this Memorial Day weekend? Well, if shopping isn't on the list, it definitely should be. With so many Memorial Day Sales going on, where's a girl to go?
The first stop on your list should be Petal boutique. Starting tomorrow, you can get 40 percent off any "last one" item, so if it's the last of its kind and it's your size, a relative's size or even your friend's size, you should definitely snatch it up. Going to a barbecue? Why not take a small gift to the hostess? I know I would rather have a fabulous new shirt or accessory than a pot luck dish. But hey, that's just me.
Then, to make the deal even sweeter, you can also get an additional 50 percent off any item already on sale. I really do love a sale on sale. And, some of the trendy brands you might be able to score at the best price of the season are Shoshanna, t-bags, Citizens of Humanity, James Jeans, Alice & Trixie, plus many more. You can't possibly need more convincing than that! Check them out on Saturday during normal business hours, Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Petal is located at 1315 East Blvd. 704.817.8871

If there is one bonus to holidays, aside from days off, it's that there's guaranteed to be a sale accompanying it. And in my opinion, saving some money is a great way to commemorate any nationally recognized day.
For Memorial Day, in addition to having Monday off from work (for those of us so blessed, that is), The Pink Hanger is hosting a sale.
Take 20 percent off any full-priced item of clothing, including tons of new arrivals.
More good stuff: The Pink Hanger will be open on Monday, from noon until 5 p.m. Day off equals plenty of time for shopping!

As if there isn't enough to look at in Green With Envy, what with all the jewelry, knickknacks, postcards, etc., etc., etc. But currently the Plaza Midwood shop is having a sale on their summer clothing: Select summer styles marked down 50 percent off regular price.

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summertime, but if you ask me, it's already hot enough out there to be stripping down to the bare minimum.
Regardless of what the calendar says, it's swimsuit season, and it's time to find you a new one, if you haven't already. In this week's cover story, Summer Guide 2011: The Swimsuit Edition, we feature some of Charlotte's rising stars, including local musicians, a burlesque dancer and even a viral video sensation, sporting some vintage suits from some of the city's best vintage shops.
In the above photo, Kaya is wearing a black faux bikini, found at Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage at Sleepy Poet Antique Mall, while TC is wearing a pair of Birdwell Beach Britches, found at The Rat's Nest. FYI: The black faux bikini was only $8.
Other spots you might want to check out to find great retro swimwear include Hong Kong Vintage and Buffalo Exchange, both in Plaza Midwood.
Rain or shine, there is something fun and fashionable to do this Friday, May 27.
In addition to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy performing at this week's Friday LIVE at the Factory, Charlotte Seen will be offering a visual twist to go along with the show. Not only can you dance around and enjoy the energetic beats of the live music, but you'll also get the chance to check out the Big Bad Funky Fashion Show that will be going on at the same time.
REVOLVE: Upscale Men's Consignment Store will be showcasing various looks for the men in the crowd. This Dilworth boutique features high-end designer labels such as Armani, Diesel, Lacoste and Vineyard Vines available at unbelievably affordable prices. The clothes in the show will be fun, upbeat and vibrant just like the music!
And if you're feeling lucky, come try your chances at winning a pair of tickets to this summer's Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Even though you won't be sporting a suit to Bonnaroo, you never know what occasion could be around the corner.
Tickets for the show are only $5 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Kids First of the Carolinas.
The show is at the NC Music Factory from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the funky fashion show starts later at 7:30 p.m.
Start your summer off with a fitness bang or should I say stretch.
Lululemon athletica believes in people having long, fun and healthy lives. That is why they have decided to open the first full retail store at our very own South Park Mall here in Charlotte.
Charlotte is full of different kinds of athletic and workout opportunities, so why not add more chances to get involved in yoga and look good while doing it.
Starting this Friday, May 20, men and women will be able to find yoga apparel and accessories that are not only stylish but made for your specific exercises. The store will offer different kinds of clothing for all sizes and also different levels of support for either running or yoga.
You may be wondering what is so special about Luluemon's products. They are strictly yoga-inspired apparel made from technical fabrics and designed to be functional as you move and twist around giving your body the ultimate workout.
The South Park store has partnered up with other yoga stores and fitness centers around the city to find out what is best for us. They will be offering classes and demos to all guests who are interested.
The fun doesn't stop there. Come in on Saturday and participate in a Vinyasa Flow Yoga class at 8:30 a.m. instructed by Lululemon ambassador Tanner Bazemore of Y2 Yoga.
Don't worry if that time doesn't work for you. Try again Sunday morning at the 11 a.m. rise and shine Vinyasa Flow class led by Amity Whalen of Yogaflex. Both in-store classes are complimentary and open to the public.
The normal store will be open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 12:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
