Rachel Zoe collection coming to SouthPark

Posted By on Thu, Jun 30, 2011 at 12:57 PM

Are you a fan of reality TV? I certainly am; however, most often the shows I watch are, of course, fashion-related. Shows like Project Runway and the Rachel Zoe Project top my list of favorites.

In fact, Rachel Zoe is a celebrity stylist whose work I've followed and admired for quite some time, so it surprises me not that she would evolve into a fashion designer. And as the "it" stylist of the industry, only she would go right to the top by teaming up with luxury retailer Neiman Marcus.

Facebook fans of the mega retailer were able to get first dibs at the new collection. Starting just a few days ago, on June 28, the race for a chance to win a $2,500 gift card from Neiman's plus a private meeting with "the" Rachel Zoe began. But don't fret, you're not too late to enter. All you have to do is "Like" Neiman Marcus on Facebook to get started. It's such an exciting opportunity for any stylista because in order to enter you must put on your super stylist cape and create your own looks featuring shoes, handbags and apparel from the Rachel Zoe collection. Do I hear your fabulously manicured fingers logging on to Facebook right now? I'm so sure!

If you're one of those folks who's just ready to shop your little hearts out, you'll have to wait just a little while longer. The collection won't hit stores until the fall but guess which one of the 41 Neiman Marcus locations will carry the collection? That's right, you guessed it! Good old NM in SouthPark Mall. So, pull out the credit cards, save your cash and get ready to be styled by looks creatively designed by one of the best.

Recycle your wardrobe for Green Jeans Consignment event

Posted By on Tue, Jun 28, 2011 at 10:13 AM

I love all types of clothes, designer and otherwise, but what's really cool is when you have the opportunity to recycle some of the items in your wardrobe. Want to be a part of a fabulous three-day event? Register today for Green Jeans semi-annual consignment event. I think it's going to be a blast, and I'll be attending for the first time ever, so as a fashion lover, I'm definitely looking forward to the experience.

Each spring and fall, sisters Cindy Williams and Dana Degan host a three-day shopping event in Lake Norman and Fort Mill, S.C., that attracts over 200 consignors and hundreds of shoppers. The sale is open to the public for both consigning and shopping. It's a shopping party and you're all welcomed to come. Just think, consignors can earn up to 75 percent on their clothing, shoes and accessories and possibly pick up a few new designer duds for themselves. That sounds like an awesome day of shopping and saving.

Because I enjoy chatting with women who come up with great fashion ideas, I just had to ask them what inspired them to host the event. "Hosting a Green Jeans shopping event is very rewarding. We love giving women the opportunity to recycle their fabulous fashion for extra dollars and the look on someone’s face when they find the perfect dress or pair of jeans for next to nothing! It is such a fun way to bridge our love of fashion and being ,” explains Cindy and Dana, owners of Green Jeans Consignment.

The actual event will take place in Lake Norman September 22-24 and in Fort Mill October 6-8, but you should get your registration to be a consignor in now. Shoppers can expect a wide variety of designers included in the sale, like Seven for all Mankind, Dooney and Burke, Kate Spade, Ferragamo, Milly, Tory Burch and everyday favorites like Banana Republic, J.Crew and Ann Taylor LOFT.  So mark your calendars, and I'll see you in Lake Norman.

Summer sale at Fifi's

Posted By on Thu, Jun 23, 2011 at 10:43 AM

If you follow Fifi’s Fine Resale on Twitter or Facebook, then you are aware that starting today at 10 a.m. through Sunday, June 27, they are having a major summer sale.

The owner, Julia, is away at a conference in Dallas, so the associates are celebrating with this four-day event. Some items will be up to 75 percent off.

With name-brand pieces at consignment on sale prices, I wonder if I should go on my lunch break or call in sick the rest of the day. I recommend escaping the blazing heat, grabbing your hand bag and heading to the Lake Norman area immediately. I’d say call your friends, but you may not want to fight over the fabulous pieces you will be sure to find. Happy shopping.

Fashion in the Queen City is growing by leaps and bounds. Even the vitaminwater brand is getting in on the action. Recently, one of the biggest outdoor fashion shows took place with Lotus Boutique and vitaminwater inspired designs. The beverage company gave the winner of the competition a $1,000 prize for their creative design efforts, and Creative Loafing was there to see it all. I was able to catch up with the winner of the competition, Cigi Guzman. Here's what she had to say.

Creative Loafing: Congratulation on your win! With so much of what we've seen that night, can you tell me what fashion means to you?

Cigi Guzman: Simply put, art.

How would you describe Charlotte's fashion scene/industry?

Growing.

(Laughs.) That's an understatement, but I'm glad to see it happening. How long have you been designing and when did you know you wanted to be a designer?

8+ years. I didn't really realize until my early twenties that I wanted to design professionally. Before that, I just wanted to be good at being an adult. So far, so good.

I know the feeling. So I've heard you are a self taught designer. Is that correct?

Yes.

How long did it take you to create the competition piece?

Three and a half weeks or so. This include : developing creative concept / story boarding / resourcing materials / fitting and construction / final execution.

Is that usually the length of time it takes you to create a garment?

Nah. The blue dress I wore the evening [of the competition] took less than an hour to create.

Wow. That's pretty fast. So, what's your main design focus? (i.e. womenswear, personal clientele, main market, etc)

Currently, it's sustainable fashion. I'm currently teaming up with Value Village Thrift to develop a new local brand. Stay tuned.

Free pampering at Beauty Night Out

Posted By on Thu, Jun 16, 2011 at 4:01 PM

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" ... or so they say. But we all do little things to help enhance what we're working with. I'm not a big makeup person myself, but the first time my friend showed me the magic of bronzer, I was hooked.

So imagine my complete horror and dismay to find out there's going to be a Beauty Night Out this Saturday, June 18 — horror and dismay because I won't be able to attend.

This event, to be held at the Aveda Institute (1520 South Blvd. # 150) from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., serves as the launch party for celebrity makeup artist Jami Svay's new book, The BEAUTY-Full Guide. The shindig will include a book signing, complimentary beauty services, such as makeovers by the Jami Svay pro-artistry team, spa treatments by Aveda students and additional pampering from The Brow Bar, Glo Glam Mobile Tan and more.

From the press release:

The Beauty?Full soirée hosts other amazing happenings and features to include additional pampering from The Brow Bar, Glo Glam Mobile Tan, the CLT Style Lounge designed by Shawna Robinson of Happy Chair and Charlotte Style Magazine, a tell?all Beauty Confessional hosted by Charlotte Tidbits and The Boutique Bar featuring Scoop Charlotte. Guests will enjoy a light summer fare menu of tapas, wine, fruit and other beautifully sweet indulgences to compliment the evening including a fresh yogi bar by Pinkberry.

So yes, you lucky ladies who get to go: It's going to be a great time. (Insert a look of envy here.)

Pret-a-porter pour vous: Olivia Kole Fashion House show

Posted By on Wed, Jun 15, 2011 at 9:54 AM

Do you speak French? No? Well, allow me to let you in on a little "fashion lesson." If you don't already know, "pret-a-porter" means "ready to wear" in French and the ready-to-wear collection by Olivia Kole Fashion House is exactly what you'll see if you're at Butter this Thursday night. Located at 950 Seaboard Street, Butter will present the Olivia Kole collection at the Outdoor Plaza of the NC Music Factory.

Last year, I attended an awesome fashion show at this location, so watch out fashionistas, the bar has definitely been raised. And because fashion and charitable giving often go hand in hand — or in this case, stiletto over stiletto — this show is benefiting A Child's Place. Want to meet the designer? She'll be there for a VIP signing and meet and greet at the upstairs bar at Butter following the show.

Complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Bask Restaurant, and the fun will continue at the after party immediately following the fashion festivities. If you're thinking about going, I would say to take advantage of the Valet Parking as well. I mean, after getting dressed up, wearing your heels (of course) and partying the night away, what better way to end the evening than valet service. Trust me ... your feet will thank you.

Get your tickets today at TicketLeap.com. $20 seated seats and $10 standing room only tickets are still available.
