Chezelle hosts warehouse sale

Posted By on Fri, Oct 14, 2011 at 9:08 AM

There's nothing like doing a little spring cleaning ... but wait a minute, it's fall. I guess ChezElle Boutique decided it was high time to get out with the old and in with the new. What does that mean for you? Well, it means that shoppers get the opportunity to shop the first ever ChezElle Warehouse Sale! With overstock selling for 70 percent to 80 percent off, this is an event you surely don't want to miss.

Be there on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to get all the goods. Offerings will include clothing from designers such as Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent, Lauren Moffatt, Karen Zambos, Mara Hoffman, Yoana Baraschi, Goldsign denim, MIH denim and lots more. My best advice? Arrive early!

ChezElle is located at 532 Governor Morrison St., Suite 120.

Mini stylemavin gets a lesson on Chanel, courtesy of the Mint

Posted By on Wed, Oct 12, 2011 at 10:35 AM

Last night, I took my 6-year-old daughter out for a fashion lesson at the Mint Museum (Randolph Road). I figured, a young lady is never too young to learn the lessons of Coco Chanel, and I was right. In attendance for the interactive lecture, led by Nicole Sinclair, the founder of Style Sanctum, were women of almost every age.

Then, it was off for a guided tour of the Chanel: Designs for the Modern Woman exhibit, led by curator Charles Mo, featuring fashions that date back to circa 1925 and some looks designed in the early 2000s.

Just as I had hoped, my little "mini stylemayvin" noticed the timeless elegance of the Chanel brand by pointing out, when looking at a piece more than 30 years her senior, "This looks like the suits Grandma wears." I explained, with a proud Mommy smile, that as Coco herself has said, "Fashion fades, only style remains the same." Meanwhile, I made a mental note to "borrow" a few of my mother's suits. I spotted quite a few of the Queen City's most fashionable ladies at the event and by all accounts, it was the perfect girls night out activity.

The Chanel exhibit, as a part of the Mint Museum's Historic Costume & Fashionable Dress Collection, can be viewed until Dec. 31.

Posted By on Fri, Oct 7, 2011 at 1:34 PM

SoBo Loft Boutique and Gifts is hosting a grand opening celebration this weekend — and if you love to shop, you'll not want to miss out. The sheer amount of merchandise they have on deck, from gifts to jewelry to stationary and more, is enough to keep you perusing for hours on end. And that's probably why I have been putting off checking it out myself — I have no self-control.

A so-called tent sale, courtesy of The Furniture Connector, High Cotton

Posted By on Thu, Oct 6, 2011 at 9:15 AM

This photo makes me laugh inside. Doesn't Rodney (to the left) look like someone who'll buy you a drink and laugh with you at the bar? Oh wait ... that's him totally.

TFCPhotoR2_2.jpg

On Saturday, Oct. 8, more than 30,000 square feet of South End will be taken over by a humongous sale. If you're looking to purchase some new furniture items, accent pieces, and more, then check out this "tent sale." I put "tent sale" into quotation marks, because in addition to the actual tent sale, The Furniture Connector and High Cotton Home both will be filled with sale items.

From a press release:

We could have our giant, incredible sale in a tent, but that would be so....expected! And you know that Rodney and Co. are anything but!
The public sale starts Saturday, covering more than 30,000 square feet of South End space.
Three Locations, TFC at 2905 Griffith St., High Cotton Home at 2137 South Blvd., and our Tent sale location at 2900 Griffith St., will feature unbeatable prices on unbelievable home decor and furnishings.
One-offs, overstocks, one-of-a-kind closeouts, discontinued and market samples direct from High Point are just a few examples of what we'll have to offer at wholesale prices.
Make sure you say hello to Rodney and the crew!

Item of the Week: Gourd Jewelry

Posted By on Wed, Oct 5, 2011 at 12:14 PM

Who knew the secret ingredient to gorgeous jewelry would be right in your coffee canister or local produce section?

Local artists Nancy Hernandez, Maria Del Pilar and Maria all work together to create line of gourd jewelry. They takes the skin from a gourd and naturally dehydrate it. Afterward, they use vegetable dyes to paint it and garnish the finished product with a protective glaze. One necklace in particular is made from dozens of melon seeds, each painted different colors and then strung in layers that produces a rainbow-like effect. The line is exclusive to Pura Vida Worldly Art.

Teresa Hernandez, the shop’s owner, says, “It’s amazing that people can look at everything and see what they can create with it. Things that we normally throw away can be saved and made into something beautiful.”

Each piece can take up to several hours to create, but is normally completed in batches to keep up with demands. Earrings run at about $20 and necklace/earring sets range from $30-$36. Pura Vida Worldly Art is located at 3202-A N. Davidson St.

Cottage Chic has a new breast friend

Posted By on Tue, Oct 4, 2011 at 1:03 PM

Fighting breast cancer with home décor has to be one of the best ideas. Ever. And on Oct. 6-8, Cottage Chic, an eclectic home décor and clothing boutique, will show its support of Carolina Breast Friends, an organization for the awareness of Breast Cancer, by donating 10 percent of each item you purchase to their cause. It’s a beautiful thing.

Finally! You can all of a sudden justify buying that furry house robe that makes you look like a polar bear and feel like royalty. And to think, it’s all for a phenomenal cause.

Grab your girls, or your patient husband, and stop by for some eye candy because Cottage Chic will pull out all of the stops in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition to exploring the establishment, whose architecture accurately reflects its namesake, you’ll also have a chance to look at some oil paintings by local artist Gaye Law. Speak with the artist in person on Friday from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Nothing goes better with shopping for a great cause than some wine to cool your spirits. In addition to the art, this too will be complimentary. Law will also donate 10 percent of each work sold to Carolina Breast Friends and, on Saturday, a drawing will reveal the lucky customer to win one of her paintings.

Cottage Chic is located at 1232 East Blvd.
