So, as many CL readers know, we started our Battle of the Hoods — which is a friendly competition that allows readers to pick the city's best neighborhood of the year — March 5. And as of this morning, the online Hood war has racked up a staggering 24,500 votes (but expect that number to increase as the day goes on).
Currently, NoDa is winning the battle. But Starmount (which is where I personally live — and honestly I am not gong to rig the competition) isn't far behind.
One of the more interesting developments of the "Battle," however, is the huge amount of comments left by folks in the competing neighborhoods. It got pretty nasty over on the comment boards at one point, but folks seemed to have kissed and made up. One user even posted this great idea:
March 13th, 2008 at 10:12 pm eThis vote that’s now in the tens of thousands… gave me an idea for next year… if we could get 2 or 3 sponsors to match the amount of votes… one vote = one dollar… maybe all this passion for our “hoods” could be paid forward to a local charity or two? This town is so full of banks…. surely they could see a need to give to the community around them…. There are also many wonderful worth while organizations who need financial help. It would be like a BEST OF THE HOODS (carpal tunnel) charity vote-a-thon….
Then, all this voting would have more meaning than a friendly rivalry or a bunch of passionate people who refuse to give in… :0)
IF THERE’S ANY BANK EXECS READING THIS > IT”S NOT TOO LATE TO PLEDGE!!! :0)
Great idea Kenny! We at CL will get the ball rolling on that for next year. Thanks!
In the meantime, keep voting. The "Battle of the Hoods" poll closes on March 19. A few weeks after that, we'll present the a representative of the wining hood with a plaque to display for the rest of the year.
Anyway, here's a link to the ballot: http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/theclog/category/battle-of-the-hoods/
