News Closed on Sundays. Why not close forever?

Eastland Mall has shortened its hours and will be closed on Sundays.
Let's just put this lame duck out of its misery. There isn't much in Eastland Mall worth buying — unless you're into urban clothing and sneakers. Belk is gone, Sears looks as if it's going to close any minute because those items in there are old as the former ice skating rink in the bottom of the mall. Dillards is some hybrid warehouse-like store that is only open every other day, and you have to know the secret password to get in the door.
I've seen this play out on the Westside with Freedom Mall. By the time I moved to Charlotte, the west side mall was already in a freefall. Instead of allowing Eastland to stay open and have the local businesses inside the mall not know what the future holds for their companies, just shut the place down and relocate the viable businesses inside the mall.
The city of Charlotte has a perception that Eastland is an evil place. But violence happens all over the city, not just at this mall. East Charlotte neighbors want change, and that change means redeveloping Eastland Mall.

Weekly operating hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., a reduction of three hours a day. The mall has normally been open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week.
On Saturdays, the mall will close four hours early, at 5 p.m. The mall has normally been open until 9 p.m. on Saturdays.
Here's hoping some of the good businesses still left in the mall can survive.
