Homophobic congressman loses mind in public

Posted By on Fri, Oct 9, 2009 at 12:31 PM

Any doubts that homophobia is a form of insanity were removed this week by Rep. Louie Gohmert, Republican of Texas. During what was supposed to be a discussion in the House of Representatives about repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell in the military, and consideration of a hate crimes amendment, Gohmert let loose his inner demons and spewed his twisted fears all over the House floor, for everyone to see (and laugh at). He called the repeal of DADT “perverse ... social experimentation,” and claimed that the Matthew Shepard hate crimes bill would lead to legalization of pedophilia, necrophilia and bestiality. Then, after quoting various Old Testament passages about homosexuality, Gomer, um, Gohmert ranted that hate crimes legislation would create an atmosphere akin to that of Germany in “the 1920s and 1930s” when “a little guy with a mustache” came to power. See Gohmert’s goofy, meandering, hate-spewing rap here:
