What if liberals helped North Korea?

Posted By on Thu, Oct 15, 2009 at 11:57 AM

God bless him, Rev. Franklin Graham is giving stuff away left and right. First, Rev. Billy’s boy gave away 55 percent of his $1.2 million in salaries after the press revealed that he was receiving full-time pay from both of the organizations he’s affiliated with. “This calling was never based on compensation,” said Graham, whose sacrifice means he will now be forced to get by on a measly half-million bucks a year. And then, Graham headed to North Korea this week to give away $190,000 in equipment and supplies for a new dental center. Since 1997, Franklin’s group, Samaritan’s Purse, has provided $10 million worth of medical and dental assistance to the reclusive communist nation.

Those are the bare facts, but here are a couple of questions:

1. Can you imagine the uproar that would arise from the right — which, of course, would be given lots of airtime by the mainstream media — if a famous liberal preacher, let’s say, oh, Jesse Jackson for example, handed out $10 million in medical help to the North Koreans? Seriously, think about it. You would never hear the end of “giving aid and comfort to the enemy” speeches and comparisons to "Hanoi Jane," whereas reaction from the right to Graham’s project has been largely muted.

2. Since Samaritan’s Purse says it provides aid to, among others, victims of poverty, is there any chance Graham will also set up free medical and dental clinics for poverty-stricken people in the U.S. (his own country, for God's sake) who can’t afford health care?

Maybe you ought to check out what the Samaritan's Purse organization does in the USA. Or was that question intended solely as sarcasm, which would be spoiled by an actual answer?

I am not a republican but when we had it we gave and our biggest charity has been Bushes admin. ourtaxes last year probably paid for one of his fans. But if Mr. Graham has money to give why not give to some of the poor people right here in his own country? Maybe because he wants notoriety. He better start reading his bible and for once do what it says.

I really fon't think Mr. Graham is such a private citizen. If he took money from donations to his church I would not call that private. I think that he just want to be known abroad as a giver. I wonder how does God views that... I'll look in the Big Book.

Teresa and Lambie. Poor ignorant moronic saps that are so impressed by the lies of the RP. I think these are people that probably don't read world news or are like those mentioned in the Big Book 2 Tim 5:3. You know "they have a form of Godly devotion but proving false to it's power" I think that, that is what Mr. Graham and his followers might be. Sorry about those who are sincere in their desire to make a better world but are adhering to the wrong person .
