Telephone company Vonage will refund customers and pay $3 million to North Carolina and 31 other states under a settlement involving the companys cancellation policies.The N.C. Department of Justice will use the settlement to enforce consumer-protection laws.
The settlement requires Vonage to make refunds to eligible consumers who filed complaints regarding unauthorized charges after January 2004. According to N.C. Attorney General Roy Coopers office, 65 North Carolinians have complained to the consumer-protection division about Vonages customer service and cancellation policies since 2007.
