A new museum opens in Charlotte

Charlotte's latest museum is opening up tomorrow to the public. If you're planning to attend the grand opening, just think: As you gaze upon the refined and intricate details in the art on display, you're slowly becoming a little more sophisticated ... Oh wait. It's the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Never mind.

Charlotteans, even if you're not interested in NASCAR, you should check it out anyway. It only cost you a couple hundred million dollars ... even if TV ratings and race attendance have declined in recent years. The building looks fabulous.

Heads up to those who live, work and play in the Uptown area: traffic's predicted to be crazy tomorrow.

After years of wooing, construction and hype, the $200 million NASCAR Hall of Fame opens for business tomorrow.

The grand opening ceremony includes a who’s who from the sport’s rich history, as well as a slew of political leaders. Among the notables attending the 9 a.m., hourlong ribbon-cutting ceremony: Gov. Bev Perdue, Mayor Anthony Foxx, and former Mayor Pat McCrory. Two local bank executives who played key roles in landing the hall — Bank of America’s Cathy Bessant and Wachovia/Wells Fargo’s John Tate — are also expected, along with numerous NASCAR executives, drivers, crew chiefs and team owners. These include hall inductees Richard Petty and Junior Johnson, NASCAR chairman Brian France, team owner Rick Hendrick and drivers Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle and Kasey Kahne.
