Boomer with Attitude / News Google in $5 billion wind power project

We wrote recently about the promise of wind energy to generate enough electricity to power the East Coast, and about the world’s largest wind farm, now up and running, off the southeast coast of England.
The hope to replace unsustainable, pollution-producing energy resources like oil and coal took a big step forward today. The New York Times reports on a huge new $5 billion wind power project from Google and a New York investment firm, which would ease the transmission of wind-generated power to the mainland:
Google and a New York financial firm have each agreed to invest heavily in a proposed $5 billion transmission backbone for future offshore wind farms along the Atlantic Seaboard that could ultimately transform the region’s electrical map.The 350-mile underwater spine, which could remove some critical obstacles to wind power development, has stirred excitement among investors, government officials and environmentalists who have been briefed on it.
