The Deal: Popular Charlotte-based sketch comedy troupe, Robot Johnson kicks off new weekly shows at The Mill in Noda.
The Good: Acting out goofy renditions of anti-drug commercials to sketches with trash bag clad Lady Gaga, the troupe accomplished its main purpose: to make folks in the crowd laugh. They jumped from one sketch to another, dispersing a couple of silly songs along the way.
Funny with or without one of the specialty drinks – created and named after characters from Robot Johnson’s sketches – and served up at the bar. I quenched my thirst with the tasty “Raoul,” a sweet/sour mix of melon liquor, light rum and pineapple juice, while my friend guzzled down the “RoJo Rita,” with Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, blue curacao and The Mill’s specialty margarita mix.
The Bad: Well, a muffin being crammed down a member of the troupes throat and spat out across the floor was more icky than funny. But, it was all a part of a parody on Sublime’s “What I Got.” Apparently muffins are what Robot Johnson’s got. Now, remember that!
The Verdict: A humorous show, tasty drinks and a crowd of Robot lovin' locals makes for a nice Saturday evening alternative. Plus, you're doing your part in some much-needed support of comedy here in the Q.C. For more information on Robot Johnson, visit www.robotjohnson.com.
