Arts Visual artist presents 'virtually captivating' works

Visual artists Naya’Hri Zaire-Suhalia will be the first to admit that she hates Photoshop. Still, she loves what she can create with the program.

“I love that I was able to get over my issues with the program and create works that I believe will truly awaken the eyes, minds and bodies of anyone that views them,” Suhalia said in her Facebook invite.

Luckily for anyone who needs awakening, they can view and purchase Suhalia’s work this Friday as she presents 25 photographic and digitally illustrated images in a collection called “Beats, Rhymes, And…” during Gallery Art Craw in NoDa.

In her collection, Suhalia focuses on combining body movement and the digital features of Photoshop to create a unique and “virtually captivating” assortment of artwork.

In addition to Suhalia’s unique collection, there will be live body painting by local artist Catherine McElvane of Spirit Works Art & Design, as well as sugary treats by Proper Cupcakes and music by DJ Ja’Maul.

“Beats, Rhymes, And…” will be on display at Custom/Espada Gallery on 3206 N. Davidson St. in the NoDa Arts District from June 1 to June 30. The opening reception is this Friday, June 3 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. during the first Friday NoDa Gallery Art Crawl.
