Boomer with Attitude Delta charges returning troops $2800 in baggage fees

Sometimes it’s the little injustices that get to you. This one got to me. Two days ago, Delta Airlines in Baltimore welcomed home soldiers from Afghanistan — who were on their way to Atlanta after an 18-hour layover — by charging them an extra $2800 in baggage fees, paid out of the soldiers’ own pockets. Nice, huh? It turns out Delta’s policy was to allow returning troops only three free checked bags. The problem is that the troops’ military orders allow them up to four free checked bags.

As one of the Munchkins in Wizard of Oz sang, “And oh, what happened then was rich.” The soldiers, while on the plane from Baltimore, made a quick video explaining their predicament and, sooner than you can say “Delta acted like a pack of assholes,” the video was up on YouTube. At first, Delta was, of course, “sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.” After the soldiers’ video went viral and people really started raising hell, however, Delta suddenly announced that it has changed its policy and will now allow members of the U.S. military to check up to four bags free of charge. There’s no word from Delta on whether they’ll be refunding the soldiers’ money. Here is the soldiers’ video:
