Rewind: See the top pre-Weiner sex scandal apologies

Posted By on Thu, Jun 9, 2011 at 8:54 AM

OK, so now Weiner King has finally admitted to tweeting lewd messages as well as beefcake and wrapped-sausage photos to women who are not his wife. What better time to take look at  past apologies by politicians who’ve been caught with their minds in their shorts? Luckily for us, Mother Jones’ website has done just that. Where does Weiner Boy’s apology stack up against other famous mea culpas? Check out the Mother Jones article here and see Sen. David Vitter blowing off the press while refusing to reveal why he likes prostitutes to dress him diapers. You’ll also thrill to the sight of Sen. Larry Craig explaining why he’s not gay. And, in our favorite apology, Pres. Bill Clinton admitting to his, er, encounters with Monica Lewinsky and then essentially telling everyone to mind their own damned business. Meanwhile, enjoy two widely different apology styles below: N.Y. Gov. Elliot Spitzer’s speedy, in-an-out one-minute announcement, and S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford’s languid, spaced out, 18-minute confession of his affair with the love of his life in Argentina. It’s an interesting contrast that we hope you enjoy here on National Weiner Day.
