Huffle Puffed
The Mill
Surviving without another year of Hogwarts strife, witchcraft and wizardry is a dreadful thing to many Harry Potter fanatics. But luckily sketch comedy troupes like Mon Frere — French for “my brother” — are incorporating the fantasy phenomena into its act. The geeky Greensboro gang cast a spell for what’s resulted in Huffle Puffed, a Harry Potter themed show coming to The Mill.
• Nightlife Charlotte’s “monthly oasis for the culturally starved” — the nightlife event Su Casa — returns tonight, bringing more great music (Afrobeat, soul, house, Brazilian and more), photography (by Jasiatic), film (expect the unexpected) and other cool stuff. Come check out what is quickly becoming one the city’s best par-tays. More...
• Theater Carolina Actors Studio Theatre has good monthly timing for its newest play, August: Osage County. The Pulitzer Prize-winning piece, written by Tracy Letts, tells the not-so-glorious tale of a dysfunction Oklahoma family brought together by a death. Addictions and big juicy secrets are soon discovered, making the reunion both a laughable and melancholy experience. More...

Pride Charlotte
Uptown
Charlotte celebrates coming out of the closet today during Pride Charlotte — a fest geared toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. The annual event, promoting diversity and equal rights, is invading Uptown Charlotte with lots entertainment — Jessica Wild, Adam Tyler, Eyes of the Elders, Richard Cortez, Ryan Cassata, Snagglepuss, One Night Stand and more are scheduled. Keep the party going into the night, as Phoenix goes gay with ice cream-alicious rapper Cazwell and transexual icon Amanda Lepore, as well as DJs (including local hero Scott Weaver and his Shiprocked crew) and headliner Peter Presta (Think: Queer As Folk).
• Festival Local Charlottean Thomas Griles knows the economy still sucks. For that reason alone, he’ll be hosting the second annual Griles Street Festival. The free fest — featuring live music (Modern Primitives, Chalkies, Mannish Boys), DJs (Marlon Young, Brad Pressley), performers (BethAnn Phetamine, Lilth DeVille), food and more — is aimed at allowing folks to forget their economic blues, as they unwind and enjoy. • Benefit The nonprofit organization Beards BeCAUSE has teamed up with designer Caleb Clark of Enemy To Fashion for a charity event that might make women think twice before plucking away stray facial hairs. The Runway 'Raiser takes place at Amos' Southend. Models with prosthetic beards will dominate the fashion show, showcasing looks for the fall from Niche, Sloan, Fresh, Chezelle, The Rat's Nest and the Enemy To Fashion line. Plus, all proceeds will go to local shelters to continue to combat domestic violence. More...

Don’t miss the showcase piece, a flatmobile that is the world's lowest street-legal car coming all the way from England.
• Art Davidson College presents the work of mixed-media artist Chris Watts in a show that coincides with the 100th birthday celebration of legendary artist Romare Bearden (the show is subtitled, "Honoring the Legacy of Romare Bearden"). The exhibit also includes sculpture by Kendall Buster. More...
• Art The works of four faculty members at Winthrop University — Jim Connell, Phil Moody, Beth Melton and Tom Stanley — are making the long haul to showcase in Columbia. The exhibit contains art by 18 South Carolina artists and takes a hard look at the state's art scene during 1992-2004. More...
