Arts Crawl over to these art openings

As the headline suggests, here are a few picks of exhibit openings and receptions to check out today in Charlotte - as selected by the folks at Creative Loafing.
* For local artists Marcus Kiser (of God City Artist Collective) and Derek Helsel, playing video games isn't just about getting to the next level. They're using the sometimes addictive devices as a muse. Together, they've teamed up for Data East, an art exhibit inspired by classic video gaming of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras (for those of you unfamiliar with console chatter, that's third and fourth gamer generations of the 1980s). Reviving classic games like Megaman, Mortal Kombat and Metroid into forms of art, the showcase looks pretty far out - and there's space pirates to prove it. * Charlotte Art League's Spring Into Art is a regional juried art competition and exhibition. Opening reception on April 6, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Exhibit continues through April 27. Charlotte Art League, 1517 Camden Road, Charlotte. 704-376-2787. www.charlotteartleague.org.
* Lark & Key Gallery's Memories and Metaphor exhibit is filled with visual symbolism, imagery and feminine inspiration. Works by painters Honora Jacob (read more about her here) and Duy Huynh and potter Jennifer Mecca line the walls for you to ponder and maybe even purchase - that is, if you never want to forget them. * Ciel Gallery's Back to the Garden is a juried exhibit of intricate mosaics of leaves, trees, blossoms, bees, Adam & Eve interpretations, and a touch of Woodstock. * Hidell Brooks Gallery unveils two new exhibits. Composition of Elements features new works by Chris Metz and Illuminations features new works by Christopher Terry.
