Amortegui debuts new artwork

Posted By on Sat, Dec 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM

There's a tempting allure to Nico Amortegui's chaotic artwork. Comprised of schizophrenic lines, colors, shapes, symbols and words, we can easily draw comparisons to the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat. But Amortegui is a one-of-a-kind and one of our own.

The Colombian-born artist lives in Charlotte, where he'll debut his newest collection, The Beauty of the Beast opens at Cosmos Cafe on Dec. 1. Expect collage-like fusions, blending feminine photographs with Amortegui's sporadic touches of abstract disfigurements. Free admission. Dec. 1, 8:30-10 p.m. Cosmos Cafe, 300 N. College St., Suite 101. 704-372-3553. www.cosmoscafe.com.
