Mez dispenser

The lights will be dimming on the nightspot known as Mez, as the downtown venue will permanently close its doors on Jan. 27.

Located in the EpiCentre, Mez was a unique combination of restaurant, movie theater and nightclub all rolled into one. All three components often operated together like a well-oiled machine, as theater patrons were able to purchase meals and drinks in the restaurant or at the bar and take them into the lavish auditoriums. Yet the juxtaposition didn't always work: Customers who paid high prices to venture to the Epicentre in order to check out a movie would often be turned away from then socializing in the bar area if they weren't sporting the proper attire (sneakers were especially frowned upon).

Moving forward, though, such complications may no longer surface: While the restaurant and nightclub appear to be deep-sixed, a stand-alone movie theater is scheduled to open in the space next month. For now, the venue plans to end its tenure with - what else? - a late-night bash. The "End of an Era" party will be held starting at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. DJ R Wonz will host the event, and the promoters will distribute over 300 pairs of sunglasses.
