The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners fired longtime Manager Harry Jones Tuesday. He had served 13 years on the job.

According to the Charlotte Observer:

In a packed government chambers, his firing was swift with no discussion in open session. After a 6-2 vote across party lines with commissioner Dumont Clarke and Vice Chairwoman Kim Ratliff opposing, the board ended Jones' contract shortly after it emerged from a three-hour closed session.

Poor Harry couldn't even clean out his own office. Apparently Chairwoman Pat Cotham told him his personal belongings delivered to his home.

The swift and impersonal termination should come as no surprise. Read John Grooms' take on Jones and why he should have been fired months ago here.
