RYAN BINGHAM
Ryan Bingham gained national notoriety after winning a Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe Award for his song "The Weary Kind," from the 2009 film Crazy Heart. Sure, that gave him some well-deserved attention, but the 32-year-old Bingham hasn't lost a step in his songwriting. His 2010 album, Junky Star, continued down a songwriting path heavy on imagery and storytelling. His latest, Tomorrowland, was released in September of 2012 and has a harder edge than previous releases. A bit more plugged in than the acoustic-driven predecessors, Bingham's raspy vocals have always enhanced the story a bit, no matter what's in the background. Once pigeon-holed into the country genre, Bingham has come out swinging to fully embrace rock 'n' roll in the vein of Springsteen, Petty and Dylan. With The Wild Feathers and Pullman Strike. $22.50-$25. May 9, 8 p.m. Tremont Music Hall, 400 W. Tremont Ave. 704-343-9494.
