The Pull List (8/7/2013): No fear in touting Daredevil hardcover

Alas! Lo! Verily! Another interjection! It is Wednesday, and we're now on the other side of Charlotte Comicon's Summer Show. There's a special place in my heart for conventions like that - with a focus on comic creators, collectors and unreasonably tight Deadpool costumes. Well, not so much for that last item.

As for these week's comics, I decided to take a different approach for the Title You Can't Miss. Usually, I like to go for a single issue for this distinction. It's important to me to center this column on the comic book, rather than the collected edition, as the single issue is the purest form of the medium. However, for this book, I'm making an exception.

Daredevil By Mark Waid Vol. 5 collects issues #22-27 of the series penned by Waid and an ever-changing roster of artists. This series certainly doesn't need my help for promotion. It's an award-winning, gorgeous take on the Man Without Fear, and Waid has continuously proven himself as a plotting powerhouse (as he's done for years). But I can't stop myself from restating it one more time for fanboys fighting off the hype: This book is amazing.

As far as creators are concerned, history has been kind to Daredevil. Names associated with the character include Frank Miller, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, and yes, Kevin Smith. Waid is a trusted name in comics writing, and though his opinions on a wide variety of issues concerning comics may polarize, no one can take away his ability to weave a superhero tale.

Plus, Stilt-Man is back. If you dig hardcovers, pick this one up.

So as Neil Diamond once said, let's "pack up the babies and grab the old ladies" and head down to our local comic shops to pick up some new funnybooks.
