News Amelie's releases latest response to workers' rights allegations

In what might be one of a handful of times since Amelie's French Bakery went to a 24 hours a day, seven days a week schedule, the local business will close on March 31 from 8 to 11 p.m. to host an open forum for all of its staff. The meeting comes in light of a former employee's recent allegations of workers' rights abuse.

Last week, Justin Miller released an open letter of resignation, calling into question the bakery's labor practices. Amelie's has posted a number of responses - one not so well-received by its social media fans - and the latest came today. The message, addressed to family, customers and friends, shares the bakery's plan "to better understand how recent events that have called into question our commitment" to "socially responsible business practices" came to be.

Basically, damage control.

In addition to hosting that open forum next week, Amelie's will bring in an independent third party to reviews its policies and procedures; has created an anonymous, online suggestion box for its employees; and intends to reach out to Miller.
