First Drip (4/1/14): No new mayor yet, taxicab owners talk 'pay to play' proposal, more

No new mayor yet - City Council agreed yesterday to wait another week before appointing someone as mayor to give council members more time to consider.

Two taxicab owners told the Observer they were approached separately by a man who said he was associated with former mayor Patrick Cannon, and offered the opportunity to get back their lost business at the airport if they donated $10,000 to Cannon's campaign. "The 42-page FBI affidavit did not mention taxicabs, but it was a controversial issue before the City Council, and taxi owners claimed Cannon was not impartial. The decision meant that nine cab companies would lose access to the airport before the Democratic National Convention."

OKCupid users using Firefox were greeted yesterday by a message from the dating website, asking them to use another browser to search its site. "Mozilla's new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OKCupid."

In an ominous note, the final words heard on the missing Malaysian Airlines flight 370 were clarified. Rather than "All right, good night," the message was: "Good night Malaysian three-seven-zero."
