Polls are open today until 7:30 p.m. around the state. North Carolinians will weigh in on a number of important elections, including the U.S. Senate Republican who will challenge Kay Hagan in November. The South Carolina Senate unanimously approved a bill that would replace Common Core standards with the state's own. Last week, a legislative committee recommended North Carolina do the same.
A federal study backed by the White House shows global warming is to blame for America's recent extreme weather patterns. "The report emphasizes how warming and its all-too-wild weather are changing daily lives, even using the phrase 'climate disruption' as another way of saying global warming." The good news? Adding even more worry and strife to a cancer patient's fight is news that branded oncology treatments have doubled in price in 10 years, now costing about $10,000 a month. "That jump is contributing to a surge in global spending on oncology treatments, which reached a whopping $91 billion last year, according to a new report from the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics. The U.S. is the largest segment of that market, with American patients and their insurers paying $37.2 billion for oncology treatments in 2013."
