First Drip (7/11/14): Top Dems support fast deportation of Central American migrant children, healthy gay men encouraged to take HIV drugs, more

In case you missed it, we updated a story we wrote for this week's CL about dysfunction within the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners. Snippy emails reveal even more dysfunction within the board. (Is anyone surprised?)

After initially opposing the idea, top Democrats say they'd allow President Obama to expedite the deportations of thousands of migrant children who've recently crossed into the U.S. from Central America. "It's not a deal-breaker," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "Let them have their face-saver. But let us have the resources to do what we have to do."

The German foreign minister stressed the importance of working with the U.S. even after the German government asked CIA officials working at the U.S. embassy to leave. "The rare and forceful diplomatic move followed news in the past week that German prosecutors were investigating two government employees who people briefed on the cases said were suspected of spying for the U.S." Still, the two countries' interests are so intertwined, a relationship is vital, said German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

In medical-related news, the World Health Organization is calling on healthy gay men around the world to take HIV drugs to reduce the spread of the infection, and a new study calls into question the claim that light to moderate drinking is good for the heart.
