First Drip (8/6/14): McCrory addresses undocumented minors coming to U.S., two-star general dies, more

Gov. McCrory turned his attention to the undocumented children who have crossed into the United States in recent months from Central America. Federal authorities estimate about 1,200 such children have landed in the care of a relative in North Carolina. “I’m worried about these children, as I am about the children in North Carolina,” McCrory said. “There is an impact on the citizens of North Carolina, but we are also worried about the safety and danger to these children not knowing what type of condition they are being placed in in North Carolina.”

The minister of Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte is accused of inappropriately touching two underage girls. The Reverend Orlando Agusto Caldera was charged with two counts of indecent liberties on Monday. Caldera's work at the church involved ministering to the Spanish-speaking congregation.

Afghan Security Forces trained by the U.S. opened fire and killed the highest-ranking American official to die since 9/11. Two-star Maj. Gen. Harold Greene served 34 years in the Army. Fifteen others were wounded in the attack, including eight more Americans.

The San Antonio Spurs have added a WNBA player to their coaching staff. Becky Hammon, 37, is the first full-time, paid female assistant on an NBA coaching staff. She will retire from the WNBA after this season.
