Lunch Break (11/3/15): Four arrested in connection with protest action at Monday Night Football game

Police arrested four people at last night's Monday Night Football game at Bank of America Stadium for their involvement in a protest action. Two protesters rappelled from the upper level of the stadium and unfurled a banner demanding that Bank of America "Dump Dominion," referring to the bank's financing of a planned liquefied natural gas export facility in Cove Point, Maryland. The protesters were aired on the national telecast on ESPN and referenced multiple times by the announcers. The Charlotte Fire Department cleared the area below the rappellers, and eventually had to assist in bringing them down from the overhang. The Panthers won the game, by the way, to remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season.

Following months of debates, forums, primaries and a runoff, Election Day has finally arrived in Charlotte. Voters are hitting the polls to choose between the Democratic nominee, former Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chair Jennifer Roberts, and the Republican, former Charlotte city council member Edwin Peacock III. In last week's Creative Loafing, contributors Joanne Spataro and Michael Cooper gave their pitches for their respective candidates. Voters will also be choosing at-large city council members, city council representatives in some districts and at-large school board members.

No students were injured in a crash involving a school bus this morning in west Charlotte, although three were taken to local hospitals for treatment as a precaution. Between 14 and 17 students were on the bus, depending on which local news report you read, when it was involved in a wreck at about 8:30 a.m. on Walkers Ferry Road. The bus was headed for Berryhill Elementary School. As can be seen in Angela Hong's video below, the bus suffered minimal damage and was driven away from the scene.

One person was reportedly taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries following a shooting in northeast Charlotte this morning. Police said the shooting occurred in the 6000 block of Matlea Court, near Plaza Road Extension.

One person was reportedly killed and three others were hospitalized following an accident involving six vehicles in Belmont this morning. It's unclear what caused the wreck, which occurred on Wilkinson Bouelvard, and no names have yet been released.
